Spent the weekend in the countryside in between Reading and Oxford at the lovely @omandbass #festival. I had such fun teaching there and trying out some other classes. First time for me doing this #acroyoga pose. So much fun. I couldn't stop smiling or being silly.

A #Thankyou really does go a long way. One of my students gave me this lovely hand made card today with a box of dates. Such a sweet thing to do. I have said ir before but i will say it again: having an attitude of gratitude is a necessity in life. I am truly grateful for such amazing students who make teaching such a joy.

Be thankful for all the gifts you receive, that parking space, someone holding the door for you, a safe window to cross the road, a smile, a hug, a cup of tea, that first #breath in the morning, opening your eyes in the morning, waking up, being able to get up, your heart still beating, even those things you think are your due. Been challenging my lovely students to go upside down. Scary stuff. This was the second time she did this. The first time with no recording just before this was even smoother. She then proceeded to start jumping up and down wirh glee as she has never done the headstand unaided before with just instructions to get her up. A really great achievement for her.

I always say It's not about the posture but what you learn getting into it. Where you build the strength in the core and shoulders to get into it. Flexibility in the hips, back and shoulders and above all else trust in yourself and your abilities.๐Ÿ’ช

So yoga is interesting ๐Ÿค— Some people get excited about #headstands and hand stands. For some people it completely freaks them out๐Ÿ˜ฒ. I personally love a good headstand, it clears the cobwebs away. They call head stand the king of postures.

I like to challenge my students to go that little bit further. Normally I am very adamant about going up into the headstand using your own strength and under your own steam. However for the last couple of classes I wanted students to feel what it is to be properly upside down so I paired them off to then help each other up into headstand.

When you get that feeling of claustrophobia around the neck, the key is to really lift up through the shoulders and push into the elbows to create space and minimal pressure on the head.๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ช If we were taught to walk on our hands then putting our weight onto our feet would be a little scary๐Ÿคค.

So this is a shout out to all those who have conquered the feel. Felt the fear but did it anyway. You end up having a sense of achievement from trying something new. I donโ€™t think I have seen bigger smiles on student faces than after trying something that seemed impossible. Plus the added bonus of working with someone and sharing the excitement and laughs.

I normally like to have lemon, ginger, honey, turmeric and cayenne pepper first thing on the morning with warm water. I normally just put a slice of lemon but my very ingenious cousin @becomeincognito recently showed me a way cooler method. By blending all the ingredients in a blender.
The cayenne raise the metabolism, lemon and ginger are great for a sluggish digestion. .

There is actually a lot of #nutrition in lemon skin. I kept the concoction on the fringe in a glass mason jar.

Then I was visiting a friend who had a totally brilliantly obvious way to store the mixture. Freeze it in an ice cube tray then pop in a bag on the freezer. Last far longer and its already measured out for you.

I normally put about 4 whole inwaxed #lemons into the blended, do chop up a buit and remove any obvious seeds. Blend with a chunk of ginger and fresh #turmeric but powder works fine too. Please note if your processor is plastic turmeric can stain. Then add cayenne pepper. To be honest it all depends on your taste buds so play around. But make sure its a nice smooth-ish paste.

Transfer to ice cube tray or trays. Freeze then pop in a freezer container. And thats it. Super easy and all you need to do is add hot water and whatever sweetener you like or not. I like #honey or agave syruo ๐Ÿค—

I always say when walking around London look up. There is amazing architecture to be seen but today, its a case of look up at that beautiful blue sky. You cant help but feel uplifted. As a summer baby I absolutely love the sunshine, it inspires blue sky thinking for sure. ***********************************

Some serious focus required for #birdofparadise and it does sort of look like the flower. Its a #balance a #hipopener and some #focus is needed to get into it. I loved the facial expressions in these photos ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ“ธ
If its a struggle to get the leg straight, try folding forward extend it then lift up the torso.

I always thought Bird of paradise was an actual bird when i practiced this pose. But its actually a flower and an absolute stunner at that.๐Ÿ˜
So I Challenge you to post a picture of your best #birdofparadise and tag @zimbayoga in the caption. Things to remember: ensure you are properly warmed up. If you struggle to straighten the leg, fold forward a little then extend the leg. Then you can left the chest and stand tall once again.

Some #therapeutic #yoga for a sore #hip from too much #squash. #Helping to increase #mobility in the hip. Sometimes when we have a problem with a joint we overcompensate or just use it less or almost give up on it. Sometimes a little reminder that all the parts of you are important and deserve #love and a little attention to get everything #moving again. Regular movement definitely helps to improve #mobility. So #homework is move more in the right way. Sometimes gently does it is the way ahead. Plus a little #Thankyou to the #offending limb once in a while doesnt hurt too๐Ÿ˜Š

#Birdofparadise is not the easiest #pose but I remember when I was first able to get into it. I had a sense of #achievement. I am very clear in #yogaclass that the #poses don't matter so much as how you feel as you flow into them. What your #breath is doing, how aware you are. It's what you learn along the way into getting into a #posture that counts. I know there were many hours of lunges, balances to be strong enough to hold this pose for a few breaths confidently. That doesn't mean I don't fall out of it sometimes. Every practice is different, you are the sum accumulation of all your experiences and you are different each time you step onto your mat. So make the choice to meet Yourself exactly where you are each and every time๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜Š
