Here I am with my first zero waste coffee in Thailand!
Just like anywhere else the biggest challenge I've had here is simply the building of habit. It takes effort to remember to pack my DIY mug, my DIY container and my cloth bag every time I go out. On top of that, the concept of BYO containers is somewhat unexpected with some food vendors. Most will happily fill my own containers for me but it still takes a bit of courage to endure that awkward pause when I present my own mug or tub. Add in to that the language barrier (I speak some Thai but not as much as I'd like) and I can understand why a lot of people just don't bother. (And that's even before I ask for soy milk instead of dairy lol).
But yesterday I managed to get my act together and here's my first zero waste Thai coffee! Ultimately it's all on me now. I have to take the responsibility to keep remembering my mug, to overcome my shyness and to remember the right vocabulary to make the process easy and smooth. In a few months it'll be no effort at all I'm sure. 🌱🌱☕️
