The journey of toy train was memorable experience. The winds sounds, balmy air do wonders for the weary traveler. It easy to get amaze by watching the picturesque landscape of mountainous, tea gardens and countryside roll past hour after hour. So I took break to get fresh at some small station and having chai too. After an hour of nap and I awoke to a serene over the wildlife sanctuary of Mahananda. Well 2.30 pm turned 4.30 pm for NJP arrival time, and I quickly hailed up the auto ride to Bagdogra airport. My flight to Kolkata schedule depart at 6.10 pm. It was an amazing race experienced for me. .

Perjalanan dgn keretapi mini adlh pengalaman yg diingati. Bunyi angin, cuaca yg m’yamankan m’buat diri segar dari keletihan. Amat mudah untk terpesona dgn melihat lanskap cantik pergunungan, kebun teh dan perdesaan dlm sepanjang perjalanan ini. Ada ketika semasa tren berhenti di stesyen kecil, den keluar dari gerabak untk m’hirup udara yg segar sambil menikmati secangkir teh. Den terbangun dari tidur siang apbl perjalanan memasuki kaw hutan lindungan Mahananda. Sprt satu kelaziman disini, tren sampai lewat dan den t’paksa turun di stesyen NJP. Den dgn segera m’cari auto menuju Lpgn Trbng Bagdogra kerana penerbangan den dijadualkan berlepas pada jam 6.10. Ini satu lagi pengalaman gila den dgn p’angkutan awam di India .

After finishing breakfast I walked to the taxi stand. The shared jeep pulled up after an hour waiting and I got on. The ride journey to Darjeeling was scenic but again it hard to enjoy with the curvy roads and lack of leg room. I pulled into the hill station around 5.30 pm and the drizzle welcoming me. Since this was my only night here, there was no question where I’d be good cuppa tea and some souvenir shopping.

Selepas selesai sarapan, den berjalan ke hentian pengangkutan awam di selatan pusat bandar Gangtok. Sejam menunggu akhirnya jeep kongsi meninggalkan hentian menuju Darjeeling. Perjalanan ke Darjeeling dihidangkan dgn panorama alam yg indah tapi seperti biasa jalan yg berliku-liku dan ruang jeep yg agak sempit m’bantutkan minat untk m’gambil foto. Den tiba di Darjeeling sekitar jam 5.30 petang dgn hujan renyai menyambut sebaik keluar dari jeep. Memandangkan ini satu2nya malam yg ada di sini, den tidak melepaskan peluang untk menikmati secangkir teh berkualiti Darjeeling dan berbelanja oleh2 .

Tsomgo Lake - Our guide leave us ample room to explored the lake by our own self. Thus we decided to start out by strolling the lake edge and taking in some of Tsomgo’s folk stories. This scenic glasier lake is perched around 3750 m above sea level and surrounded by steep mountains. The mist thick as we returned on the jeep and began drizzling as we leaved this place. We brief stoped for some chai at waterfall and reached Gangtok at 5pm. .

Tasik Tsomgo - Pemandu lawatan kami memberi ruang secukupnya kpd kami untk meneroka sendiri kawasan ini. Oleh itu, kami putuskan untk melihat-lihat tasik ini dari pelbagai sisi. Tasik glasier ini terletak 3750 m dari aras laut dan dikelilingi gunung-ganang. Kabus tebal menyelebungi sebaik kami kembali ke jeep. Kemudiannya, hujan renyai mula turun apabila kami meninggalkan Tasik Tsomgo. Kami sempat berhenti sebentar di kawasan air terjun untk secangkir Cai bg memanaskan badan. Kami tiba di Gangtok pada jam 5 petang. .

I originally planned to do some trekking in Sikkim region. But after deep thinking, the plan was just ambitious for me. I decided to visit Tsomgo Lake for my 6th day. As independent backpacker, I tried to avoiding costly guided tour but in Sikkim frontier case it’s almost inescapable. Foreign tourist not allowed to club and go with India tourist for travel in restricted area. So on the day, just two of us, I and Daniel, a German were going to Tsomgo. We started the day by walking to Vajara Taxi Stand. There we met our guide and driver and headed east to Tsomgo. Our ride stopping first at military check post where they were checked your special permit. Then, we continued ride up the mountains, passing through military camps and we arrived at Tsomgo Lake around 2pm. .

Asalnya den berencana utk melakukan aktiviti trek di Sikkim. Tetapi setelah b’fikir panjang den merasakan rancangan tersebut agak b’cita-cita tinggi dgn kekangan yg ada. Justeru den putuskan hanya ke Tasik Tsomgo pada hari ke-6 ini. Sebagai seorang yg tidak berapa gemar terikat dlm kembara, den cuba utk m’gelak m’yertai rombongan kumpulan yg kosnya lebih tinggi. Akan tetapi hal ini seakan tidak dapat dielakkan bila ingin melawat tarikan di kaw larangan. Peraturan yg mana, pelawat asing tidak dibenarkan utk m’yertai kumpulan pelancong warga India dan minima sekumpulan adalah 2 orang. Makanya kos lawatan ini meningkat 2 kali ganda. Pada hari tersebut, hanya kami berdua, den dan Daniel, orang asing yg berhajat menjejak kaki ke Tsomgo. Kami mulakan hari itu dgn berjalan kaki ke hentian teksi Vantara dan disitu bertemu dgn pemandu lawatan kami. Perjalanan ke timur terhenti seketika di pos sekuriti yg mana pihak b’autoriti tentera akan m’yemak permit khas daerah larangan. Kemudiannya, perjalanan yg santai tadi mula bertukar rentak dimana laluannya mendaki lagi mencanak serta berliku-liku. Kami tiba di Tasik Tsomgo sekitar jam 2 petang.

After lunch, I strolled around Gangtok downtown for checked out a few more attractions and the ropeway was my stop. I ride ropeway to get true scope of this mountain town and the view I seen from ropeway car was incredible and surreal. Afterward, as recommended by Kanchan, I walked to nearby ‘Suicide Point’ to view hinterland from different angles. My day tour finished at Namgyal Institute of Tibetology. It was insightful visit. As I walked back to hostel, I marveled at the Tibetan of influence around me.

Selesai makan t’hari, den bersiar2 di sekitar pusat bandar Gangtok untuk melawat beberapa tarikan lain. Kereta kabel adalah hentian pertama. Den menaiki kereta kabel bagi melihat pemandangan sekitar bandar pergunungan ini. Panorama ke luar kereta kabel sangat menkagumkan dan cantik. Kemudiannya den berjalan ke ‘Suicide Point’ yg terletak tidak jauh dari stesyen kereta kabel. Den mengetahui tarikan ini drpd saranan Kanchan. Den habiskan lawatan hari ini di Institut Tibetologi Namgyal dan ini merupakan lawatan yg cukup b’maklumat. Ketika berjalan pulang, den terpesona dgn pengaruh Tibet yg terdapat di sekeliling.

I woke from my post-overland bus sleep. The sun was out, the midst were gone. My day started with busy preparing documents for permit application submission. Then, I decided to follow my new Indian friend, Kanchan for Gangtok sightseeing. Our first stop was Tashi Viewpoint. Unfortunately, during our visit the thick cloud had blocked vista view of Mt. Kanchanjagha, the 3rd highest mountain in the world. After that, we walked to nearby Gonjang Monastery for visiting. We left the monastery throughly respect and jumped on taxi headed back to town centre. We had a lunch together at Tibetan restaurant before Kanchan leaving Gangtok to NJP.

Den bangun drpd lena tidur pasca perjalanan darat 27 jam. Mentari m’yinari dan kabus m’hilang. Hari den dimulakan dgn sibuk menyiapkan dokumen2 bg prmhonan permit khas. Kemudiannya, den putuskan m’gikut teman baru den, Kanchan untuk melawat tarikan di bandar Gangtok. Tarikan pertama yg kami lawati adalah Tashi Viewpoint. Agak malang apabila pndngan vista ke G. Kanchanjagha, gunung ke3 tertinggi didunia, terhalang dgn awan tebal semasa kehadiran kami. Kami panjangkan langkah ke Monasteri Gonjang yg berada tidak jauh dari Tashi. Kemudiannya kami meninggalkan monasteri dgn pnglmn baru tersemat dan menaiki teksi pulang ke Pusat bandar. Sebelum Kanchan meninggalkan Sikkim, kami berkesempatan untuk makan tengah hari bersama di satu restoran Tibetan di Gangtok.

After disembarking at Kakarvitha and passing through Raniganj Immigration Checkpost, I ride a local bus to Siliguri town. I were flying blind as soon as I scrapped my itinerary plan going to Pelling. My journey are running behind schedule. I made decision to just get to any Sikkim towns as soon as possible. Thus as soon I get Sikkim’s special permit in Siliguri, I boarded the last bus bound for Gangtok city. The ride up the mountains was scenic but it was hard to enjoy the view with zigzag curvesv road. I managed to breezed through Sikkim boarder patrol despite crossing it a bit late. I’m arrived at 9.30 pm. It was dark walking through the narrow staircase kinda alleyways to my hostel. Anyway I had made it to Sikkim!

Sejurus tiba di Kakarvitha dan melepasi pos Imigresen Raniganj, Panitanki, den bergegas menaiki bas ke pekan Siliguri. Den dakar sebaik membatalkan rencana itinerari tujuaan Pelling. Jadual perjalanan den sudah kacau dek masa perjalanan yg melebihi jangkaan. Den putuskan untuk segera pergi ke mana-mana bandar Sikkim yg terjangkau petang itu. Lantas den m’dapatkan permit masuk Sikkim di malawakil Siliguri, dan meneruskan perjalanan dgn menaiki bas terakhir untuk tujuaan Gangtok. Pemandangan memukau menemani perjalanan mendaki ini walau jalannya yg berliku-liku kadang m’yukarkan pandangan. Den melepasi kawalan sekuriti dgn aman walaupun tiba di malam hari. Tiba di Gangtok pada jam 9.30 mlm dan berjalan menyelusuri lorong2 dan menaiki teres tangga yg sunyi utk ke penginapan yg den sempat tempah semasa dlm perjalanan tadi. Dalam pada itu, den berjaya menjejak kaki di wilayah Sikkim! .

At 2 pm I grabbed my backpack and return to the busy Thamel street. On my way to bus station, I had lunch at local halal eatery. Rushed forcing me to hail up few thousand rupee for a taxi ride to station. Unfortunately my schedule AC bus ride was cancelled and my ticket have downgrade. I boarded the non AC bus at 5 pm, which is 2 hours delayed. The ride down the highland region was not like I expecting. It lacked in comfort and time consuming despite the scenic views of Nepal countryside. I stayed on paved road for about 18 hours but luckily my journey was accompanied by a friendly Nepalese family. They have helped me a lot. I approached the border at afternoon time.

Pada jam 2 petang, den m’gapai beg dan kembali ke jalanan Thamel yg sibuk. Dalam p’jalanan ke terminal bas, den sempat singgah untuk mengisi perut di warung makan halal. Dek kerana tergesa2 m’gejar bas ke Kakarvita, den terpaksa m’gambil teksi ke terminal. Malangnya, dikhabarkan bas AC yg sepatutnya bertolak jam 3 telah dibatalkan dan diganti dgn bas biasa. Terasa sia2 menempah awal tiket. Bas yg den naiki bertolak pada jam 5 petang, iaitu 2 jam lewat. Perjalanan bas ini tidak seperti den jangkakan, agak memakan masa - lambat dan kurang selesa di sebalik pemandangan desa Nepal yg m’damaikan. Den rasa bersyukur bertemu dgn satu keluarga Nepal yg baik hati membantu den di sepanjang perjalanan bas 18 jam ini. Den m’hampiri sempadan pd tengah hari, iaitu 4 jam lewat dr apa yg den rancangkan .

Swoyambhunath Stupa - I woke up early to cross off the Kathmandu attraction list and this third day was my last day in Nepal. Walking 3km west of Thamel to the well known stupa of Swoyambhunath. Founded in the 5th century, this Buddha religious site consist of huge stupa dome at the base, and above it is cubical structure painted with eyes of Buddha looking in all four direction. My time was limited, I decided to call it an early day and headed back to hostel for a lunch and some shopping at Thamel district. The overnight bus going to Kakarvita were expected to leave at 3pm. .

Stupa Swoyambhunath - Den bangun sedikit awal untuk melengkapkan senarai tarikan wajib di Kathmandu dan hari itu merupakan hari terakhir den di Nepal. Berjalan sekitar 3km barat daerah Thamel ke Stupa Swoyam. Tapak keagamaan Buddha yg diasaskan pd abad ke-5 ini terkenal dgn ciri senibina yg terdiri daripada kubah stupa di bahagian dasar dan struktur kekotak yg di setiap 4 sisinya dilukis mata Buddha. Kerana keterbatasan masa, den putuskan pulang ke hostel awal dan habiskan sisa hari dgn berbelanja saat akhir di daerah Thamel. Bas malam menuju ke Kakarvita yg telah dibeli awal itu dijadualkan bertolak pergi pada jam 3.

I explored the old city of Kathmandu on paved roads, busy alleys and vibrant square. There were plenty of partially of restored Temples and other significant buildings to seek . Durbar Square was surrounded on most of sides with beautiful architecture. I walked back to Thamel street to looked some halal dinner. .

Den meneroka bandar lama Kathmandu melusuri jalan2 berturap, lorong2 yg sibuk dan medan yg hidup. Terdapat banyak kuil2 dan bangunan signifikan lain yg separa dibaikpulih untuk dilihat di sini. Dataran Durbar dikelilingi dgn senibina yg indah di hampir setiap sisinya. Akhirnya den akhiri kunjungan dgn berjalan pulang ke daerah Thamel untuk mencari makan malam halal untuk hari itu.

I leaving the Bhaktapur and took a local bus back to Kathmandu. I cramped myself together with friendly local. I pulled into downtown around 3 pm. After having street snack at famous kiosk as my simple lunch for the day, I walked to Durbar Square to explored the other version of this uniqueness urban form. .

Den meninggalkan kota Bhaktapur dengan menaiki bas lokal. Perjalanan mengambil masa 1 jam. Den sampai di pusat Kathmandu sekitar jam 3. Selesai mengalas perut, den panjangkan langkah ke Dataran Durbar untuk meneroka kelainan versi Kathmandu.

Eventually I found my way to a wonderful city blocks with lively streets and alleys. I hung around here for a while before shifting my attention to the nearby point of exit.

The charm of old Bhaktapur town didn’t stop with just Durbar Square. Not far from it, there is Taumadhi Square. At almost 9 storey building standing the Nyatapola Temple in the south part of the square. This incredibly monumental structure will lead into the nice panorama of Bhaktapur town. There is another temple on the west side. I just strolling around the perimeter of Bhairabnath temple because from what I know, the outside of is more interesting than inside. I also noticed the presence of massive wooden cart wheels on the left side and nice terrace cafe on the opposite of the temple .

Keunikan kota tua Bhaktapur tidak berhenti hanya di Dataran Durbar. Terdapat Medan Taumadhi tidak berapa jauh dari situ. Dengan ketinggian sekitar bangunan 9 tingkat berdirinya kuil Nyatapola di selatan medan. Panorama indah kota Bhaktapur dapat dilihat apabila memanjat tangga agam kuil ini. Selain itu, terdapat sebuah lagi kuil besar di barat dimana sepengetahuan den meninjau di luar cukup memadai. Den juga perasaan adanya pedati kayu besar di tepi kuil Bhairabnath dan sebuah kafe teres yang agak yipster di hadapannya.

My first Nepal plaza experience was Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Constructed around 1796 by King Jitamitra Malla, is surrounds by several temple buildings and also palace compound. Adorned with ancient Newari carvings and in pretty good shape, I wondered how some of this structure stands the test of time and earthquake. After exploring this civic centre and some section of survive buildings, I found out that the restoration and reconstruction works done decently and in order.

Melawati dataran Durbar Bhaktapur merupakan pengalaman pertama den merasai suasana warisan alam bina Nepal. Dataran yang dikelilingi oleh kuil2 dan istana ini diasaskan pada sekitar tahun 1796 oleh Raja Jitamitra. Kagum dengan ukiran warisan Newari dan keutuhan sebahagian struktur asal yg masih mampu bertahan dek masa dan gempa. Selepas menjenguk binaan2 agam ini den dapati kerja-kerja pembinaan semula dan pemuliharaan pasca gempa disini dilakukan dengan bertertib dan teratur .

What to do on my second day in Nepal? I pondered the question over a breakfast of pancake and eggs, with a brief interlude to discuss politics with an Brit and gloomy morning. I ultimately settled on spending the afternoon exploring Bhaktapur - one of the medieval city state in the Kathmandu Valley. I climbed back up to my room on the 2nd floor, packed some daypack bag and hit the busy streets of Thamel.

Apa yg hendak dilakukan pada hari kedua ini? Den merenung soalan tersebut sambil menikmati sarapan pertama di Nepal. Akhirnya den putuskan untuk ke Bhaktapur dan sebaik selesai sarapan den menuju ke jalan mencari arah ke kota tersebut.
