Recently I met with an astrologer to map the charts of my new album, Zealandia. I'll be sharing these over the coming weeks, before the album is released on August 10.
First up is the conception chart, with words by Colleen Coffey.
"This chart was created for the conception of an idea; it foretells the journey from that moment of inspiration to the final point of realisation. It’s never easy to define a conception chart; they are nebulous, abstract, often lost in space and time. But sometimes, perhaps because of the power of the initial thought, they survive to become a reality.
This is such a chart! The moment of inspiration for Zealandia may have come following a gentle bush walk in Central Otago, but the commitment to this project – a musical love story to a lost land – is anything but gentle. This album has a chart of endings and beginnings, of passion and tension, in which the great Gods of the sky face off for a cause, not a moment to be silenced.
Zealandia’s chart is equally divided between three of the four main elements of nature. The Sun and Moon which carry the Spirit and Soul of the matter are both in sensitive Water signs, and it is water that is the conduit of this album. The Moon is in the caring, nurturing (Mothering) sign of Cancer, while the Sun (together with Mars) sits high in the chart, in the inspirational if somewhat whimsical sign of Pisces.
Inspiration alone could not bring a project of this magnitude to fruition. However with Neptune (the planet that makes the dream) and Saturn (the planet that creates the reality) linked in ‘conceptual’ Air signs – there was a plan.
No plan of the heart works without passion, and this chart has passion in spades – a passion that would not easily accept the confines of time, and would never accept compromise.
This is a chart heavy in symbolism, rich in the mythology of ancient Gods, their primal passion, and their desire to win against all odds. Uranus and Pluto are the great movers and shakers, relentlessly reinventing the world in which we live. They say that together Uranus and Pluto can move mountains – now we know that perhaps they can.” #zealandia #astrology #conceptionchart #nzmusic
