On occasion I hear an argument that strength and flexibility are antithetical. This is something which has always frustrated me, as I feel that it underlines a massive misunderstanding of what flexibility should be seen as.
If you look at the works of someone like Pavel (@strongfirst), who has been arguing on this topic for decades: flexibility is about having strength in the full range of a muscle.
This approach to flexibility highlights the flaw in classic strength training which often encourages a look built around short tight 'pumped' muscle bellies that have an extremely short effective range of strength.
This weighted straddle slide (a slightly more advanced exercise) is just one approach to looking at development of end range strength in the hips.
Anyone got any cool flexibility challenges for us? I am definitely stoked on getting beaten up by wicked hard flexibility work.
