" 'Whipping Zombie' is a film about suffering and is a feeling that everyone can understand. At Manifesta the project consists of two works: 'Lapidi' and 'Whipping Zombies' that are put in dialogue. These are two films that start from the same reflection: memory and the way we have to tell about suffering, memory and above all death. The ritual of 'Whipping Zombie' is a ritual linked to the memory of the past. A dance of slaves and masters led by a hypnotic music, on whose notes various men whipping each other and fighting until they die, only to be reborn again in an infinite cycle. In 'Lapidi' instead I tell the Palermo inscriptions dedicated to the victims of the mafia. But above all, I analyse today’s way of remembering these tragic deaths"
