I feel privileged to be writing Aden's story for past 2 years because he has taught me so much about Life and he is one truly great inspiration for all of us, even at a tender age of 2 years old.
For those who do not know Aden, he is a brave little boy fighting a very rare and agressive form of leukemia at just 3 months old. Over the past 2 years, he had gone through 2 bone marrow transplants but because his leukemia is so rare and potent, he relapsed both times. In these 2 years, the hospital has become his 2nd home as he battled infection, surgeries, chemo treatment, plenty of pain and suffering, while still being a toddler.
Yet, he is such a brave warrior. Everytime this cancer try to pin him down and give him very low chance of recovery, he fought and come back stronger. He has taught us not to give up, even when the odds are stacked heavily against you.
But probably, his body has taken too much beating that he is no longer able to keep up. The doctors have run out of idea on how to treat him and they advise to let him stop treatment so that his body can take a rest finally.
While the body is broken, the spirit is indestructible. I hope we don't see this as a gloomy affair filled with sadness but a celebration of his life, his indomitable character and willpower. Let's be proud of him for fighting the good fight.
Let the story of Aden remind the parents in Singapore that what matters most is not how smart, how many As your kids can score or how many skills they should learn, but rather they be well and healthy. That is a blessing denied to Aden right after he was born. So, give your child a hug, tell them you love them and stop stressing so much over their grades or how they will turn out in life. They will be fine, trust me.
