Far too many young athletes and coaches fail to grasp this simple concept!
If you're going to swing, throw, shoot, swim, serve, jump etc. THAT many times, you'd better be stretching to undo some of what all that repetitive motion is doing to your body!
Because every time you finish practice, or a workout and immediately get in the car to head home, you're allowing your muscles to shorten up a little more. Over the course of several weeks, months and even years, these tiny incremental changes can add up to BIG trouble!
Now, if you go ahead and add strength training into the mix- without addressing these slightly altered joint mechanics- you'll only be further cementing these movement restrictions.
The bottom line is that muscles tell bones what to do. So you'd better get yours saying the right things if you want to achieve your athletic goals and steer clear of injury.
