Ahhh, the Instant Japanese Curry Roux 🍛So easy to make and so delicious!! Just sauté onions, add meat protein, carrots, potatoes, water and the curry roux. Simmer until potatoes are soft, then serve with rice. Most homes in Japan use the instant roux to make curry, but it's packed with artificial ingredients and stabilizers so try making it from scratch! 👌I recommend the JAPANESE SOUL COOKING book for recipes 📚
Curry was introduced to Japan by the British during the Meiji period (1868-1912), at a time when Indian was under British colonial rule. The Japanese made it their own by thickening the sauce to suit pairing with sticky short-grain rice, added apples to make sweeter and chose a milder spice-blend compared to traditional Indian curry. The first instant Japanese curry roux blocks were made in the 1950s and remains to be one of the highest selling processed food products in Japan. It's now available all over the world now too !!
