JOE-ly Day 21 - Barricade and I have a... complicated relationship. My friend had him as a kid, and he might’ve been my least favorite Joe ever. My opinion of him has definitely softened, but he’s still pretty middle of the road for me.
Why did I hate him so? I’d say it’s probably that face. Why’s he got such a smug mug? Because he carries a big gun on his back? That ain’t so special; Mace and Muskrat do the same thing with their heads. Is it the helmet? Because Robocop did it first. Maybe he just really loves his work. Doesn’t mean he needs to be all smug about it. He just looks like a douche.
That being said, if he wasn’t so damn smug, that missile launcher is pretty cool. If you’re going to barricade something, do it with a missile launcher on your back. And I do like the sculpt from the neck down. Out of the two older versions, I prefer this red one (mostly because my friend had the blue one and it still brings up old feelings of loathing). The Anti-Venom one is probably the best, because it looks more “realistic” with its desert camo. I know “realistic” isn’t usually my thing when it comes to Joes, but I did say my relationship with Barricade was complicated.
I’ve never really given much thought to where Barricade would fit in my personal Joe canon, but as I’m writing this, I’ve been thinking he’d make a good partner for Roadblock. Roadblock and Barricade - it just makes sense! Roadblock would be the good natured guy that all Joes get along with and look up to, and Barricade would be sarcastic douchebag that Roadblock inexplicably likes having around. I think it works. And (aw crap) it’s making me like Barricade more. I guess Jules Winfield was right: personality goes a long way. Even if it’s this guy’s. #joely #gijoe #battlecorps #barricade #90stoys #hasbro #redbarricade #yojoe #cobramountain #conquestofcobramountain #roadblock #springloaded #missilelauncher
