If there’s anything that this last year has taught me, it’s that I’ll never underestimate myself again.

You must decide what purpose your body should serve. We will do appropriate yoga for that
Even most wonderful human qualities will go waste due to lack of balance. This yogasana improves balance.

Ocean Dreams πŸŒŠβœ¨πŸ¦‹
β€œI dive down into the depth of the ocean of forms,
hoping to gain the perfect pearl of the formless.
No more sailing from harbor to harbor with this my weather-beaten boat.
The days are long passed when my sport was to be tossed on waves.
And now I am eager to die into the deathless.
Into the audience hall by the fathomless abyss
where swells up the music of toneless strings
I shall take this harp of my life.
I shall tune it to the notes of forever,
and when it has sobbed out its last utterance,
lay down my silent harp at the feet of the silent.” ~ Rabindranath Tagore

Now this is a challenge I can definitely get behind. What I like best, is that the procession of postures and poses for this give the yogi free rein to choose their level of intensity. This doesn’t put limits on the yogi or their body- as yoga should be accessible to everyone. Every body is a yoga body. πŸ™πŸΌ There are two steps for having a β€˜yoga body’:
Step 1: have a body
Step 2: do yoga
That’s it. There are no limits to what you and your body cannot accomplish πŸ’“ eager to see what new lessons I learn from this challenge! πŸ•Š Starts May 26th-June 1st 🌻
1. Standing/balancing pose
2. Forward bend
3. Twist/side bend
4. Backbend
5. Hip opener
6. Inversion
7. Empowering pose of choice

This city really became so much more to me over this past year. It’s weird, before this past year I didn’t feel so content and at home. I always had this longing to be back in Europe or really, just anywhere else. But I truly fell in love this year. With this place. With the people. With life. I’m so thankful. Thankful for the memories this city holds and how close it brought me to my practice. Thank you to the people who changed my perspective of this city, and made it one of the most amazing, most eye opening, adventurous years I’ve lived yet.. You know who you are. This place will be so hard to leave.
Thank you to William (@texhaas) not only for taking this beautiful photo in front of this city that I love so much, and for being one that made me fall in love with it, but also for being my best friend. I admire your positive energy and love for this world and the people in your life. I have learned so much from you. I may have turned you into a yogi, but you turned me into a better person. Love you. πŸ§˜πŸ»β€β™€οΈβ€οΈ

I think the way I practiced and taught yoga started to really change when I started taking action on addressing the whisper in my head that the same postures and the same transitions weren’t serving me like they used to. I thought that maybe I craved creativity and artistry, which is why I started photographing more emotive movement shots, like this one.
I’ve more recently realized that the purpose of why I started the practice, if broken down simply, was because β€œI felt better.” Other adjectives apply of course like: empowered, flexible, strong, confident, etc. but the overarching theme is β€œI felt like a better person.”
So really thinking and meditating recently on β€œwhy these exercises?” β€œWhy the flows?” β€œWhy are people saying these things are changing their practice and their injuries?” I’ve realized that it’s because I’ve let go of the attachment to alignment with respect to β€œyoga” postures...which allowed me to take whatever existing knowledge I have of science and human bodies and allowed myself to be open to learning (the unbelievably large amount of) thing I wasn’t open to before, because β€œit wasn’t my field.”
Still haven’t figured out what to call whatever it is I’m doing and over the last couple years it went from β€œhoney flows” to β€œpanda flows” to β€œwtf Hiro this sucks in a good way exercises” to .... I guess it’ll reveal itself soon enough. Just going to keep on keeping on.

She’s patient.

β€œWhen disturbed by negative thoughts, opposite [positive]
ones should be thought of. This is pratipaksha bhavana.”
––Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra 2.33 ✨✨ Pratipaksha bhavana is such a simple yet powerful tool. By learning to recognize negative thought patterns and stop them in their tracks, you can literally reprogram your mind to view the world in a more positive light. ✨

Every time you think something negative about yourself, someone else, or a situation, try thinking the exact opposite (for example- whenever you catch yourself thinking things like "I'm not good enough" or "I don't have enough," reverse those thoughts and tell yourself "I am enough.") ❀ If this is not possible, decide to think about something else instead- something or someone that makes you happy, that you're grateful for, that you love.
If you can change the way your mind works, you can change your whole life. πŸ’– |
