In practice today I had great reminder of how much access to possibility in the body and mind is available by dropping resistance. This morning I woke up foggy, from allergies, and have not been able to shake that tired feeling. @not_very_flexible_yogi was going to take the noon class, and I thought, I have nothing to lose. 45 minutes later I feel like a new persons. Wow! 2 years ago today, I graduated my 200 hour yoga teacher certification with @nicoledohertyyoga through @yogaworks ! Since then, I’ve almost taught 2,000 hours of yoga to students in LA and the Twin Cities. I’ve had the opportunity to teach elementary school teachers for 2 years straight, work with children to make a yoga video for their morning announcements, lead workshops, manage a yoga studio, and work with individuals one-on-one to guide them on their unique healing path.

What was meant to be a side hobby became my life, and I’m so grateful every day for this gift!! 😍🎉💖. I’ve grown so much, inspired to learn more about myself and this practice so I can give back to my students. Seriously, I can come to “work” in a grumpy mood and leave feeling uplifted and joyful. Such. A. Treat. 🙏.

One day during yoga practice, right before meditation- my teacher said “release all of your efforts.” My eyes welled up with tears as I took a sigh of relief. I realized we all try so hard! Forward Folds have a tendency to bring up a lot of s**t for us internally. Our ego wants to touch the toes or bring the chest to the floor or straighten the legs. We go to strange lengths to muscle our way into a position that we’re supposed to come into with ease. So here’s my advice for Forward Folds, which happens to be a nice tie in with the #wereleasetoreceive challenge. Feel it, own it, let it go. Be careful who you spend your time with. Who you worship or follow on social media. Are they glorifying an “easy” life of vacationing, food consumption, and consumerism. That can only lead to suffering in the end. Try to spend your energy studying and changing habits that hold you back. Wake up, make your bed, have water with lime and charcoal, detox the body, meditate, have a clean meal, start your day with productivity, and watch how the mind is effected by that. Pay attention to the internal temperature of your mind and body. Build your emotional fortitude for the real work. From our first inhale(inspiration) and our last exhale (expiration ) is where life happens. Try to imagine that kind of opportunity in each breath we take. The creation of something on the inhale and the letting go of something we don’t need on that exhale. Change is work. But it’s the road to freedom. Freedom from the suffering in the mind that holds us all captive. Stop paying attention to your thoughts that don’t serve you. You are listening to an organ that lives in the dark. Literally! 🧠 the brain is always in the dark. Your skin, your breath, and your body are all touched by light. Live in that light. #Namaste

I am an extrovert. ⠀
This doesn’t mean that I don’t value and derive great benefit from solitude. It simply means that I am fueled by interaction with other humans. It gives me energy, inspires me, and allows me to flex a very important personal muscle that of my performer. ⠀
I have a performer gene. ⠀
And out of balance it can run wild and overtake my true essence. ⠀
Throughout my life I allowed it to mask vulnerability in the form of wild stories, humorous anecdotes, and strong opinions. ⠀
For me, and this is another reason I know I’m a true extrovert,being the center of attention is far more of a shield than being in the corner. I can skillfully control the narrative and other’s perception of me. ⠀
It’s actually through the yogic practices that are quiet and solitary in nature that I’ve allowed myself to relax more into having a soft open front rather than protecting my center with the shield of my boisterous personality. ⠀
All that being said, I wasn’t sure how coming back to work on Saturday would feel.⠀
⠀ ⠀
Would I get tired mid class?⠀
Would I remember the English language?⠀
What would it be like to teach without the tool of my physicality?⠀
Was I ready?⠀
⠀ ⠀
The week before I returned I’d sort of plateaued in my recovery. ⠀
No new physical gains, random exhaustion, and night sweats (gross).⠀
⠀ ⠀
Turns out, going back into the world has been awesome.⠀
And bolstered my energy times 100. ⠀
⠀ ⠀
I am not someone who can sit alone in the quiet cave of my house to reach enlightenment. One week, two weeks, even three weeks, ok. But by the fourth week I’ll start to take a turn for the worse because I need people. ⠀
⠀ ⠀
It’s not that I feed off your energy like a vampire. ⠀
But seeing myself in the mirror of others is a valuable tool of self-perception. As an extrovert it’s not being on the stage as a character that’s scary, it’s being on the stage comfortable as myself. Not striving for validation, but allowing myself to show up still a little beat up but open and ready to share. ⠀
It gives me renewed focus, purpose, and energy.⠀
⠀ ⠀
Also I just miss everyone terribly! Hope to see you soon.
