๐Ÿ‘‰ From the side view, my hips and shoulders should ideally be in one line and you can clearly see how far forward my right shoulder and hip are?

๐Ÿ‘‰ Another NO! is the back foot... can you see how I am riding onto my big toe and allowing the pinky toe to lift? I often walk past people threatening to stand on their feet to get them back down. ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜…
Because I am riding forwards on my big toe, I have also lost my structural integrity in my leg, and can you see how much easier it is to bend that knee joint lose the strength and foundation of my leg? ๐Ÿ˜ณ

๐Ÿ‘‰ From the front view, can you see what a problem I am causing in the incorrect placement of my front foot? By pigeon toeing my front foot, I am closing my hip in which drags my knee in too.
If I was to duck foot my front leg (ballet stance out) I would be straining my groin out too, so both are not great. ๐Ÿ˜”

Itโ€™s day 1๏ธโƒฃ of our 5-day tutorial. For today weโ€™ll be focusing on hamstring flexibility because it is an essential part if you want to straighten your legs in #fireflypose one day.

Before working on these hamstring stretches, warm yourself up first with a few sun salutations. I also recommend that you take your time doing these stretches and donโ€™t hurry through them. The more thorough your prep poses, the easier you will get into firefly and the better it will feel. ๐Ÿ‘

โš ๏ธ Please listen to your body and only stretch as far as it feels good โ€“ hamstring injuries are probably the most common yoga injuries! So take it slow and work at these rather consistently on a daily basis. Thatโ€™s also the reason why we start our journey with these. So always be nice to your body! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™

โžก๏ธ #JanuSirsana: Focus on keeping your lower back straight and parallel (involves a tiny twist), work your sternum towards your foot and relax your shoulders. Breathe.
โžก๏ธ #Parsvottanasana: Focus on keeping your hips parallel and your back straight. Feel free to use blocks to place your hands on. A mini-bend in your front knee will protect the joint.
โžก๏ธ #PrasaritaPadottanasana: Focus on lengthening your spine, tilting your hip and pressing your outer heels actively into the mat.
โžก๏ธ #UpavistaKonasana: Keep your back straight and your legs active.

Notice I said simple and not easy! ๐Ÿ˜…I donโ€™t do the โ€œsimpleโ€ handstand drills as often as I should. When I do, it is like a goldmine of information ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’Žis revealed to me. I find this especially the longer I practice the more the basics teach me everything about the final pose. So weird. In the beginning I had no time for the basics of course. ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜‚Anyways, I highly recommend that you add this to the beginning of your practice and before Inversions for at least a minute. (That is, if you can last that long! ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ™Œ) .

๐Ÿ™ŒStand with your big toe knuckles touching and heels ever so slightly apart. Roll your inner thighs back and apart until you feel your butt relax to attain the correct leg position. Then take your butt and lengthen it towards your heels until you feel your frontal hip points lift up towards your bottom ribs. (Also known as a posterior tilt of the pelvis. An anterior tilt is often seen in a banana handstand where the butt sticks out and the belly spills forward. This puts a lot of pressure on the lumbar spine.) Zip your inner thighs up from the ankle bones to the tops of the thighs. .

๐Ÿ™ŒTake a deep inhale and as you exhale cinch your ribs down towards your hip points and together as if you were pulling on the strings of a corset. At the same time keep the sternum lifted. .
.
๐Ÿ™ŒWith your arms down alongside your body spin your palms to face each other. Then reach them forward spreading your upper back and up alongside your ears. Wrap your triceps in towards the tip of your nose and maintain the spread of your shoulder blades apart. Squeeze your arms to straight. Do not let your elbows bend. .
๐Ÿ™ŒPress up through your palms. Rise up onto the balls of your feet. Press through your big toe knuckle and your second toe knuckle to find balance. Gradually take your eyes up and try to look between your hands as you would in a handstand. Hold for as long as you can keep Balance. Whatever shows up here is likely to show up in your handstand, so notice where you might be leaking energy or not engaging. Good luck! .

In today's episode I summarized briefly the standing asanas sequence.

Now, a bit of history ๐Ÿ“š
.
Ashtanga Vinyasa sequences as a story of thousands of years, and we really don't when, or where was created. Probably, the first practitioners were Vamana Rishi, and Patanjali. But, there is a little blur about that.
.
However, it was Guruji Sri Tirumali Krishnamacharya who brought the series to Mysore, in the early 1920's.
.
Krishnamacharya was exploring the Himalayas mountain when accidentally met Rama Mohan Brahmachari, who became his teacher.
.
In fact, the Ashtanga Vinyasa series was practiced by the Himalayans Monks to light up the inner fire, and keep them warm during winter time.
.
During an excursion on the Himalayas, T. Krishnamachary saw a man practising asanas semi dressed outside a cave.
He was enchanted by those moves. So, he tried to approach the man. But, the eremite didn't want company, and went inside his cave.
.
The morning after the man exited the cave and saw again T. Krishnamacharya. So, he asked "why are you still here? โ€œ ย T. K. " I want to learn those moves" and the yogi replied "No"
The morning after:
"I want to learn" "NO" etc..
.
However, T. Krishnamacharya didn't give up, and after seven days of annoying persistence, the eremite accepted to teach to him.
The cave man was Rama Mohan Brahmachari.
.
The training went on for seven years and half.
.
Rama Mohan Brahmachari during winter time was teaching, and practicing the Ashtanga Vinyasa sequence, and during the summer a different Vinyasa, where the poses were held for 3 minutes.

Apparently, I live in the perfect country to practice the Ashtanga Vinyasa ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง
