To deepen your twist's practice, try to dig your elbow as low as possible down the opposite thigh. You can even lift your sitting bones of the mat, reach deeper with your elbow and then sit back down. In that way, you will chalenge your body to try and lengthen from a very restricted position; thus more muscles will work in order to help you grow tall and than twist. It is much harder then just starting with the elbow high, close to the knee!
I demonstrate this active way of twisting in a seated twist, ardha matyandra asana, but relevant to other seated twists like marichyasana 3, or even standing twists such as twisted chair or twisted lounge.
