Transformation Tuesday: We can't expect to get the results we want if we only put in the work on the days we FEEL like it

Waiting for motivation is a losing game. Many of us struggle with motivation, especially when it comes to changing some really big things in our lives, because naturally occurring motivation tends to be fleeting. Most of my professional work over the last 10 years has been supporting people in changing big things like addictions and mental health conditions. And the nature of these issues is that they affect our thinking. Which means the last thing a person struggling with addiction may FEEL like doing is going to an AA meeting, because all their brain WANTS in the moment is for them to use. So we have to focus on how they want to feel AFTER. Creating change means taking action no matter how you feel in the moment because you want what is on the other side of the healthy behavior : sobriety, peace, joy, health

We have to CREATE our motivation rather than waiting for it to come to us. The people who are able to keep doing the next right thing, despite how they feel, are the ones that eventually start to see the results they want in their lives and ultimately FEEL better

Total disclosure. I workout most days, but I don't always WANT to. Last night I definitely didn't. And as I sat in my apt playing the "I'm so tired tape" I stopped and reminded myself how I wanted to feel. So I went and it felt amazing and I slept amazingly and I woke up feeling...amazing. And none of that would've happened if I listened to how I felt in the moment. Sometimes we need to get out of our heads and just DO the next healthy thing, and wait for our feelings to catch up๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ™ @yogasix
