Scenes from a postpartum practice. Finding time to practice yoga with a 2-month old baby isn't easy. Before having a baby, it was hard for me to imagine how it could be so difficult to do simple things like eat meals or shower. But alas, free time is precious. Yoga becomes a luxury even while it is more necessary than ever. After 9 months of pregnancy and 6 weeks of postpartum recovery, as well as carrying the baby, nursing, and using the sling, my body has never been this tight and weak. Sometimes I only have time for one or two poses. If I'm lucky, I get in a whole 40 mins or an hour. It's a great reminder that this practice is a gift and to never take it for granted... One day I'll take class and even teach again!

A couple of weeks ago I saw myself doing yoga for the first time since I started. Never practiced in front of mirrors or seen myself on video. This fall I’ve been practicing on my own, without teachers. So I took a small break from handstands, and I was scared that I would have fallen a few steps behind in my practice. But I guess rest was the right choice! I felt so strong and stable, I was able to actually feel my shoulders pushing away from my body! And how about those weird presses, hu? Well, at least it’s a starting place!

Day 6 #handstandsbykimber Last Day Fun Day! I was scared to try it because it looked so hard. And it was, but it was also so much fun I couldn’t stop laughing! I did 3 rounds at a minute each, this was my best one.

Day 1 #handstandsbykimber is strength with shoulder protraction. In the first picture, it’s an example of how I’m pushing through my shoulders for stability. The middle handstand was my longest hold. The third picture was the best form but I was only able to hold it for a second and I had to use time wall to get into it. All three pictures are from today. I’m always pushing through my shoulders, but it’s so hard to find that strength while you are also trying to balance! This second video is the scapular push-ups, which I don’t do enough!

Here is day 2 #handstandsbykimber with bad crow and good crow for intermediate option and tuck to straight handstands. I tried it in headstand to get the feeling and I think I can get it in handstand if I had more time, but dinner was ready!

Found a little spot slightly away from the crowds without having to hike (which I would love to be doing). I'm not practice big poses right now, gentle yoga is the name of ugh game... and gentle walks, I just about managed the 1/4 mile from the car park to this spot with @renatomatolopes arm for support at times. It's a humbling experience making allowances for rest and recovery. Humbling also to be in these big beautiful places. I had a really bad yoga day today, and ironically I think it’s because of this tuck press that’s coming along. This video is from yesterday morning and I did this press 3 times in the morning then came home and worked on a straddle press, which I managed to get 3 times consistently. So now that I’ve gained this strength in my back, I’ve lost much of the flexibility! Today I couldn’t comfortably do wheel pose or king cobra, even with Roby pushing on my feet. So with every gain there is a step back, I’m sure there is a lesson in this. A lesson in patience. I’ll keep showing up, keep working on it and trying to enjoy the process and not get caught up in the things I can’t do. I’m working on being thankful.

Day 5 #kickoversnleftovers is Wheel Boot Camp with 3 reps of 10 wheel jumping jacks, 10 wheel mountain climbers and 10 wheel pushups. I left the girls chipmunk voices so you can hear how much they always talk through my workouts. Sadly, what I didn’t catch on camera, but was watching while I was doing my wheel push-ups, was a scissor fight. Luckily no one got hurt. Video sped up X3

This past year I experienced unexpected loss- My heart is still mending in many ways. Even through I felt grief, anger, and deep sadness, I also felt the many blessings all along the way. It's been a few days since I made it to my may cause of work and kid stuff and plenty of other excuses. Yoga today was pure bliss. I felt my body melt from pose to pose and my breath reaching every square mm of my lungs. Yoga has done so much for me, not just for flexibility or strength but for awareness and love of self and understanding my mind and body. Today I opened up my 💚 chakra and the love is there. I can truly say I am calm, inside and out. Now I can melt into my cozy bed more relaxed than ever for some deep and beautiful sleep. 🙏 #healingeveryday #yoganomatterwhat #chakralove

The last two days of my practice were super hard. Impossible to focus, my mind wandered as I was overwhelmed by my job, life and everything what's going on around me. I literally had to talk myself to complete EVERY asana...😥 Sitted practice has only lasted 15 min. as I could stand no longer... 😞
Finally now, when the day is coming to an end, I feel so happy and grateful that I have not given up and have completed it all no matter what. And this is what ashtanga is all about, not every day is perfect, just accept it as it is and feel it.

Day 9 #resolutionhandstand is L shape and 3 leg down dog. I have been working on L shape every day, it’s my first handstand now every time I start a practice. This was a 35 second hold, my longest ever. And my shoulders were on fire, so I came down but I felt like I could have stayed there forever!!! Video sped up x3

I’ve had hyperextended intervertebral muscles for the past two months. My thoracic and lumbar spine are strained. I have, of course, been modifying my practice. This has been an important daily reminder that WHERE WE ARE TODAY IS WHERE WE ARE TODAY. *️⃣ Tomorrow, we may be in a different place. We may have more (or less) mobility. One more sleeping with the bucket. The timing is just cruel... today I asked some friends to watch the kids, so I could go to my yoga practice. I haven't been once for a whole week, and it really hurts. So I asked. So ridicules difficult every time. Even though I really hope that people trust me enough to ask for help. Trust that I can say no, when I can't help. And then this happens. They did know that there's been this bug in our family, and the play a lot together anyway. But still.

Day 4 #RiseForCore2 is standing forward fold. I left Myra’s voice in, with one of my favorite songs by Odesa so you can get an idea of what my yoga is always like. Someone is always complaining and I’m imagining that I’m in some peaceful place, surrounded by sand and waves and pelicans and palm trees.
