Day 23 of the #YogaPoseChallenge is a doozie of a pose, especially for a #yoganewbie like me. But, rather than continue to allow this pose to intimidate me, I asked for support and tackled it. So, I present to you, Sirshasana or #Headstand.
My girl, @thejourneyjunkie, always provides such amazing advice and I wanted to share this nugget today: "For this pose + the future inversions, I recommend either using a wall or having a partner nearby to spot, especially for the first few attempts." Tonight was my 4th ever attempt at this pose and I finally nailed it...of course, with Kevin's help!!❤
Allie continues, "The wall/a partner provides a sense of safety/comfort, but I will warn you, it can become too safe. Use it while you're learning the body mechanics of the posture, but then get on with it.
Go fly, fall, make mistakes, get winded, catch some hang time, feel effortless, and most importantly - face your fears. This whole process of the unknown, kicking up and not knowing how it will unfold, is crucial to your inversion journey (and your real journey).
Yes, it's scary and uncomfortable, I get it. I've been there....But guess what's even scarier? Living in your shadow, never taking the risk, and wondering how it could've, would've, or should've turned out. I won't let this happen, to either of us, as life's just too damn precious." #Preach ...below are her ever transformative words of wisdom:
💪For beginners - stay in the clasped head, downward facing dog variation, focusing on aligning hips over shoulders.
💪Activate your core by hugging one knee into the chest & switching sides.
💪Once you've got lift off, hang out with knees tucked into the chest, & experience the hips over shoulders alignment here.
💪As you begin to lift your legs high, use your entire legs to control the action by hugging muscle to bone, firing up the inner thighs, & reaching through the toes.
💪To descend - practice control, grace & take your time!
