INDIA✨🇮🇳 This crazy yet magical country. It tested my patience a lot - delayed overnight trains, dodging cow s***, traffic, noise, pollution to name a few but it also has the best food, culture, sights, lovely people - it was a trip of a lifetime.
One of the most powerful experiences I’ve had in my life was my time in Varanasi. We took a boat on the Ganges twice, one at sunrise & one at sunset.
Lots of things happen here, public cremations, swimming, people washing their clothes & themselves to name a few.
Before we headed to the evening service our tour guide took us to a lassi shop located down this tiny dingy alleyway. We all huddled into this tiny shack & made our orders.
We soon realised we were on the path where the dead were taken down to the Ganges to be cremated. Their bodies were carried on stretchers by their loved ones as we sat drinking our Lassi’s. It was such a surreal experience. When we left the lassi shop another body came past, this time the loved ones were basically running and cheering with her, with instruments playing and the lady who was dead’s body was uncovered. I could see her entire face. I couldn’t help but look. The thing was I thought I would of been creeped out but I wasn’t. She looked utterly peaceful & content. The reason they were cheering / running was because she was over 100 years old. Her loved ones were doing her proud & she was being cremated by the Holiest water and Holiest City in all of India ✨
That was something I’ll never forget & I’m so truly grateful I got to witness this culture in all it’s glory.
