The Garuda Purāṇa गरुडपुराण is one of the eighteen Mahā-purāṇas of Hinduism. The earliest version of the text may have been composed around the 1st millennium CE, but expanded and changed over an extended amount of time. It's various versions contain between 8,000 and 19,000 verses.
90% of the text, called the Purva Khanda, discusses a wide range of topics associated with life and living. The remainder of the text, called the Uttara Khanda or Pretakhanda, discusses rituals associated with death and cremation.
