Yoga is a wonderful complement to all physical activities and even better shared with friends as lovingly shown here by @thehungryathlete!
Your next coconut water is on us! 😘
Day 42 of Stop and Drop Yoga Challenge with @breathetogetheryoga #VirabhadrasanaIII or #Warrior3Pose “I get by with a little help from my friends” - John Lennon 🚴♀️ I have my mid-week morning decompression ride buddy @susantimpanoyoga back! 🙌 She’s been away for most of the summer. She’s a strong athlete so I occasionally PR segments on Strava just trying to hang with her. We also solve life problems. Actually, no we don’t but it’s fun to say that. We do bounce ideas off of each other and share our challenges as well as our aspirations. Who do you lean on for support? 🚴♀️ Stopping here by one of our favorite spots. Grateful for having her shoulder to lean on, literally and figuratively. Grateful too for having my beloved bike, and a sport that gets me outside. All of these things, my friends, my cycling and yoga, support my mental and physical health.
Warrior III is supported by a coordinated effort of the front and back side of the body. The back, shoulders, glutes (which must engage to help square the hips), and all the way down to the hamstrings, calves and ankles are toned. The abdominal muscles fire to float the torso. Reaching forward with toned arms while reaching back with a strong floating leg are also key in supporting this posture. Practice with the back foot on the wall, or with fingertips on blocks aligned under the the shoulders to feel all this in the body. Or lean on a friend.
