Iโ€™m normally someone with immense drive and will to do/create/work. But the last few weeks have been heavy. Heavy to hear of suicide in the news. Heavy to imagine the terror of young children and families at the border. Heavy to learn today of a beloved neighborโ€™s sudden death. Heavy to know my partner has been dealing with pain. And heavy dealing with my own resurfacing of old trauma. Iโ€™ve been struggling to get energy to rise from the couch at times - a feeling I havenโ€™t known in a decade or so.(But for sure have known well). Lest you or anyone think my life (or anyoneโ€™s life) is all yoga poses and glamour shots, remember we are all in this boat together. No one is immune. Tomorrow is a new day, and a new opportunity to train our hearts and minds toward more joy and compassion and better understanding. Iโ€™ve had a wonderful weekend of YTT and studying anatomy with @yogawithchloe. Itโ€™s definitely not a subject I find intuitive but Chloe has a way of making it all seem so logical and easy to grasp.
.
That said, I definitely know Iโ€™m going to have to make a conscious effort to commit it all to memory and do plenty of self study to reinforce what can feel like info overload to someone new to anatomy. Chloe did share with us that sleep is crucial to our brains transferring information from our short term to long term memory stores, so Iโ€™ll be off to bed now ๐Ÿ’ค ๐Ÿ˜ด ๐Ÿ’ค .

Check out this tip for using a block in Hurdlers Pose to isolate each part of your body and learn to fly! My students are having insane success with this after just a few weeks!

I think Hurdlers Pose is easily one of the most complex arm balances there is because there is so many different things going on in the body. Your front leg is doing something totally opposite of your back leg, and this posture requires so much strength and flexibility in the quads, hamstrings, glutes, and hip flexors...not to mention core and upper body strength ๐Ÿ˜ง๐Ÿ˜†

I remember trying this posture for the first time and my brain and body just wouldnโ€™t connect ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธSo break it down piece by piece, then bring it all together. Be patient. Be curious. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿง๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Headstand - To do or not to do?
We hear benefits of the king of Asanas Sirshasana.
Let's put it like this - In my experience of a massive issue in the upper back, the neck and tight shoulders have not been healthy always. This asana requires alignment so the neck doesn't bear the brunt of all that weight. In case of a slight complaint in the lower or upper back, this could have other deteriorating consequences.
So the start should be with ropes which can be done only under the guidance of teachers with the technically sound know how.
NEVER START PRACTICING THE HEADSTAND WITHOUT MAJOR PREPARATIONS.
In this journey, you may discover that the Spine needs more care through proper restoration and strengthening of a set of required muscles that should be activated weeks before the first attempt. And a classical traditional pose won't be the answer.
Please be under proper guidance for a long while and then attempt with proper knowledge.
