Let the Truth Set You FREE!

 One of the biggest life changing moments I’ve experience over the past 20 months, post injury, happened 2 months into my healing process. After 2 month of dealing with a lot of physical pain, anxiety heartache, I made the decision to shift my focus on the positives. Yes, I acknowledged I was in physical pain & not sleeping much because of it, I couldn’t change that, but I could change my attitude. I let go of reminiscing at what my lifestyle, yoga practice, & career goals were like before getting injured and trying to figure out how to continue that path, I let go of putting a timeline on when I thought I needed to be healed, & focused on the truth of what I could do now with what I got (both on and off the mat). I sat down & made a list of everything I could do in this present season. When I released my past abilities/path & future expectations, not only did I feel a heavy burden lift off my shoulders, but I got so excited about life again (even though I couldn’t move much ;) ).

 Since then, by changing my mindset, I have actually “accomplished” more since I’ve been injured by thinking outside the box and stepping beyond the lines of the path I had created. My injury has given me an opportunity to step back & create a different life for myself. Yes, I would do anything to go back in time & to not have pushed so hard so I wouldn’t currently be dealing with daily pain & limitations, BUT, I can’t go back in time, I’ve let that go, I can only turn my physical mess into a message to help others not end up in the same physical state I’m in, & I am currently grateful for my recent choices & the amazing opportunities that have come my way during this season. .

I’m sharing this with you to encourage you that no matter if you’re dealing with an injury/illness, job loss, work challenges, relationship issues, a break up, your stuck in life, etc., have faith, make your list of what you can do NOW. Also make a list of what you would like to see happen if money wasn’t an issue and you had no limitations. I guarantee what you put your focus on will magnify & manifest! Dream BIG! Let your set backs become your Devine set-ups!

Honesty is the best policy. It’s important to be honest with ourself and others. .

I think for many of us it is easy to listen to societal pressures/expectations (be it who you choose to be partnered with, when you should be married by, what type of job you should have, how your yoga poses should look/how often you should practice ;), how your body should be shaped, etc) rather than listening to what is in our hearts and working with our personal desires, gifts, strengths and limitations. Not listening to what is true can lead us to make decisions that may not in the best welfare for ourselves and others. .

Though some of us need a little more motivation, as a whole, many of us come from culture of “no pain, no gain” and we are praised for pushing past our limits. Hard work, sacrifice, and going the extra mile get us good grades, promotions, and wins in sports. While this mindset can lead to advancement, it can also lead to imbalance. With yoga, your internal drive may be high, but your anatomical structure can only take so much. Too much pushing can lead to impingement, strain, and tears in the joints, tendons, and muscles. .

It’s important for us to step back and question why we are pushing so hard? Where is it coming from? Our teacher, ego, fellow students/teachers, social media? Why is this need to keep pushing override what is best for our bodies? I’m look forward to a cultural change in the yoga world that praises the idea of honoring our body’s limitations and practicing in a way that leads to a lifelong practice, injury free! Many of us finally see the importance of this mindset after it’s too late. Too much is too much. .

Some days are cold and your shivering/ cramping calves could really use a massage. 🤣
Its funny how work in progress asanas looks weird if done individually but looks good when attempted in a group. Next time you're on the mat dont be shy to share a quick smile with your mat neighbour, or even chat with others after class. Somedays if your body feels right, get someone to take a yoga photos for you after class, even if you dont know them(something I personally struggle with and seldom have the guts to ask). Who knows, you might surprise yourself and make some new friends. 🌸

I’ve been substituting for a Vinyasa class today - in English! 😱 - and it felt so good! I’m also so happy because now I’m going to teach on a regular basis, with my own class on Sundays. I feel so much gratitude, to have the opportunity to teach yoga. It’s such a blessing. 🙏🏼 Had to do a little quick dancer, out of joy.😍

Happy hump day! A little late I know 🙈 but it’s been a long day traveling! So today many friends informed me that there is an imposter of myself on fb, adding them and asking for hp number, shortly after they received an sms with a one time password.

Why would you want to fake something or pretend to be someone you're not? I insist on staying true. Just like how I insisted on squaring my hips in my #hanumanasana practice. Someone once told me "I dont care if your hips are squared, I care for nice photos with 180degree looking splits". I disagree.

At the end of the day, I answer to my own spinal health and my own sacroiliac joint. So NO! I refuse to fake that "so called split" by turning my belly button side facing just so the hips touch the ground. I insist on squaring my hips and keeping my back knee cap on the mat even if it means my photos turn out this way: hips not yet on ground. Like how my first ever mentor @elainemisspiggyte taught me to, I will forever square my hips in my #hanumanasana because that's the real deal. I dont need to be a "fake perfect version" I just need to be myself

Note to self: it's tough to quit a bad habit once you start it, you can try but its gonna be tough. So respect your anatomy honour your body, get into yoga poses to relieve tension in muscles and built more flexible yet strong joints. Dont yoga or get into a pose just for the sake of some photo you want the world to hit likes on. (Its a note to myself you can ignore this part 😂)

So this was fun! I took the liberty of a super slow, gentle warm up and finished with #splits #hanumanasana. By the end, I was just about melting into the floor! Thanks carpet floors! Working on pulling in my belly to lengthen my back and rolling the back hip on both sides down and in. But I'm proud of me for practicing both sides and not just doing my "easy leg". What I learned tonight: both legs will lengthen just about equally if I slowly ease in to the stretch. I wish I could make time to teach a deep stretch class again 😢 I really miss it. It is sooo important to really maximize any yoga practice. Maybe someone reading this will be my #instastudent and will seek out a slow stretching and breathing class nearby you! #namaste #homepractice #yogaalmosteveryday #AYearOfYoga2018

Pls note: New classroom gantry installed at ym studios. Pls come into a handstand/headstand(or a variation) to be granted entry to the room. Ahahahaha....just kidding. Im not even closed to handstanding without the help of a wall yet, and yes I'm a tiny bit nervous too in a handstand variation. But it's okay, let your fears help you instead of hinder you, make your yoga practice a little more focused on building stronger arms, deltoids, chest, core, back muscles and finally a stronger mind.
