I don’t know why I don’t own a piano...I might just need one now 🤣

What I love about playing instruments is that it is the perfect meditation for me - my mind has to be “off” or else it gets in the way.

The more I think about what’s coming next or where my hands need to go, the more I mess up. When I relax and allow, it flows much more easily. I often even close my eyes to not anticipate where I’m going.

The first is a song by Yann Tiersen and the second is some piano shredding of a song by Michael Nyman (sorry Michael). There was another storm so the pups were nervous :< But the music and lots of hugs tend to help 🤗

Say what your soul is needing to say as soon as you are able to those you want to share heartfelt messages with - even if it’s scoffed at or pushed away or makes you feel stupid at first. Drop the pride, drop the walls.

Say it to clear your soul so there isn’t anything stuck inside you that says, “I wish I would have let them know that”. What if you never took the chance to tell them and the opportunity was gone?

I write this after receiving news that a long-time student recently passed away. She was only in her 50s, so quite young. I didn’t know her well but I saw her often. She was a sweet soul and was always strong even in the face of longstanding chronic pain.

Send love to those who inhabit your heart in a way that sets it free from complacency, secrets and sadness ~

One way to love and respect yourself is to not put up with anyone’s bullshit. I don’t care if the person is your boss, a complete stranger, parent, doctor, best friend, trusted mentor, partner or “soulmate”. If you are disrespected, purposely hurt for fun or for a reaction, dishonored and humiliated, or condescended to, then that shit is one sided, boundaries have been crossed and you have to give it to them straight - this shit is not ok or I’m gone (for awhile or forever).

I don’t care if you don’t think there is anyone you’d connect with as much in the world or who would understand better or who you would enjoy being with more. I don’t care if you think you can’t live without them or owe it to them to stick around. It’s still not worth being treated that way. And the truth is, there is someone else and you are not stuck - you can connect with your inner being and fill yourself up with your faith to attract good people and other amazing connections.

Teach others what you will not put up with by removing yourself when you are not honored. I’m not saying be a sass pot and walk out on everyone - but if you make yourself vulnerable and are taken advantage of, not appreciated or considered, there is much better in this life for you than that. Create clear boundaries for behaviors you allow and don’t - and stick to them even if it dissolves bonds you treasure. You need to love yourself, and sometimes that means caring for and keeping some folks at a distance. Attract better by only accepting better.

I enjoy sharing beautifully composed, manicured and artistic photos, but I really enjoyed sharing more video while doing the last yoga challenge. I started filming more of my practice after my first graduate program, when I really needed to reconnect to my creative self and body. I started posting clips on Facebook, but they were all taken down because of copyright on the songs (even tho they were all Bach’s and Beethoven’s pieces). So I started posting on instagram instead. At first my account was just our foster cats and grass growing out of sidewalks.
And now I share some art everyday. And I want to share more of myself still. I have received feedback from a number of people that they don’t know “who I really am”, and I do understand that since I closed up for a really long time...and somehow felt like showing my real, raw self was embarrassing or inappropriate or “too much”...and I’d be hurt or rejected. But I am also truly an introverted person. I will always have a private world reserved for only a few to explore, but I do have a desire to have meaningful connections with many.
But also, part of me doesn’t know what to do with that. What does that mean? What am I comfortable revealing next, letting everyone in closer to, while still being authentic to me? Sharing more organic moments came to mind, as well as more of my deep thoughts - dropping the veil.
Anyway, I’d like to connect more with my in-person friends and all of you, and I’d love ideas on how to do that.

In my pjs at the 🎹
Whenever I spend some time by a piano I like to goof around on it and see if my hands remember the handful of songs I know - this is over the course of an hour while I was doing laundry at a house I am petsitting at.
I had to record mostly because of one of the puppers, Hershey - he sings and howls the whole time. His tail is wagging so don’t worry, he’s fine. He really gets me with his “Roe - Raows” 😂 I’m trying really hard to not laugh at first 🤐

If you want better, you have to focus on what that is instead of condemning and discussing, blogging about, pushing against, mutually griping about, grieving about and feeding what’s not good.
Before I knew that and before I understood how to love myself fully by myself or about boundaries, I repeatedly visited subjects and incidences that harmed me in some way. If I analyze it for the billionth time with my mind and heart, I will feel better and it will finally make sense.
You won’t and it won’t.
My inner being never looks back, and now nor will I. I’m not saying don’t process - but don’t get stuck in the questions. All my power to be who I really am is right here right now. And I have to train myself to redirect my thoughts and discussions and focus to what brings out the best in me.

At my core, I am an artist. What I have come to appreciate about that is the medium doesn’t matter.
I’ve gone through phases of being immersed in the fine arts - have created paintings, sculptures, have written books of poetry and short essays, and then music: sitar, piano, cello, erhu, and the healing arts: yoga, massage, therapy.
It doesn’t have to be paint on a paintbrush. Whatever I ever get very involved and invested in, I can create art with that. Cooking, yoga photography, yoga classes and trainings, clothing design, martial arts, gardening, my relationships, home design, my body - I can create art in excellence with all of that.
Even if I got into something currently outside my interest bubble like mathematics or history, because I am an artist I can create beauty and meaning with that because that is my nature.
You don’t have to stick with just one way of expressing yourself as an artist - your life will give you your tools and mediums to play with, and you will naturally infuse art into all you do and create.
There is beauty to be found and cultivated everywhere you are.
