When I first started collecting old things I wanted them to be as close to perfect as possible. I was young then and didn’t know better😉! As I got older I realized that the flaws on these old things told the story of their years—just like with people. So, flawed finds became much more appealing to me.
The exact timeline that my affinity for rust and chippy-ness went to the extreme it is now is not clear! What I do know is that when we started finding buried treasures scattered around our property I wanted to save every single piece of it! To me, every item told a story of past owners and the history of This Old Cape House. Everything we dug up was set aside and the most interesting and identifiable items were safely tucked away for a later project.
What remains is a giant pile of rusty crusty mysteries!
Our friends and neighbors think we are nuts. The contractor working on our barn project—the reason for the latest treasure discovery—looks at the giant mess and wonders why we spend so much time perfecting our landscaping but leave this mess piled up next to the barn! Yes, it might be a bit crazy but I just know there is a secret in that pile and I want to sort it all out and find it. After all it’s not every day that you get to antique hunt in your own yard!
You have until midnight PST to share your tale of CHIP-A-DEE-DOO-DA with all of us at #Happy😊Hoarder!
