This is one of my "forever favourite" movies. When this movie was out, I watched it over and over again for 13 times. The only movie that I watched 13 times in my life! If you ask me to watch it now, it definitely brings me tears in a split second
The way Orked a.k.a Sharifah Amani dressed up in this movie was really how I used to wear my baju kurung; small floral prints (till now) with sneakers and long straight hair (even way before this movie was out!)
And... I also wore plastic bag on my head (exactly like the above pic) and walked freely around town/city just becoz I didn't have umbrella (I even do until now - call me & my siblings weirdos what not, we don't mind)
It was our Nenek Salmah that actually taught us to use the plastic bags on our heads when we were kids especially when we "teman" her to Pasar Geylang in SG. Being a single mother (divorcee) "yg hidupnya susah", Nenek Salmah was the most creative Grandma in town. No "payung", nah pakai plastik la kau budak balik dr pasar Geylang ke Eunos (sbb payung utk 6 org budak kan mahal).. Man! It was quite a walk I tell you! Al Fatihah to our nenek Hjh. Salmah Bt Jais (she has Chinese blood btw)
I used to have a photo that I wore this plastic bag on my head, seriously like the above pic (on my way back from Central Market when it was drizzling in KL) taken by someone who was dear to my heart. But now, I can't even locate the photo to share with you guys. That was one of the best momentos in my life - being care free
Yasmin Ahmad was a really good director and she managed to even capture these little details of life. Why SEPET is my favourite movie? Somehow the storyline relates to my life - almost.. cuma watak kami sahaja berbeza. May you rest in peace Yasmin. Thank you for creating this wonderful movie that is very close to my ❤. Al Fatihah.. .
