🙏🏻You'll find these work relatively well in most cases & can provide a rough starting point to allow someone to start monitoring & then adjusting according to real world responses.

💥It's important to realise that:

1️⃣These are estimates, our bodies don't fit precise calculations.

2️⃣ Everyone differs; genetics, environment etc. all play a role.

3️⃣ Our energy use is dynamic and has many inputs & outputs that are influenced by one another.

💥Landmine Single Arm Row by @sam_xceedfit💥

A few weeks ago I showed you a Landmine Bent Over Row exercise (refer back on my page if you missed it). Today it’s the turn of the single arm version of this exercise. Here’s how to do it:
.
.
1️⃣ Place one end of a barbell into a corner and attach the plates to the other end
.
.
2️⃣You have a choice of 2 stances here. The first is with feet together and the second is with legs split with the barbell in between (you could have you legs split and barbell to one side if you wish). A split stance is normally easier on the lower back
.
.
3️⃣ Grab near the top of the bar (further down then the plates), push your hips back, pull your shoulder blade back and down
.
.
4️⃣ Row the barbell up using mainly your lat muscle on that side. Squeeze at the top and lower slowly down to the start .
.
🏋️‍♂️I always include single arm (and leg) variations into mine and my clients programming, so this is a great exercise for an upper body or back/pull day. It’s more advanced then a basic dumbbell single arm row, so get competent at that first. Aim for 3-5 sets of 6-10 reps here
.
.

🏋️‍♂️Despite my many posts about how beneficial weight training for just about everything, I still get questions from people asking if other non weight lifting activities will help them lose weight. Notice in the heading of this infographic Ive written bodyweight, not body fat. There’s a big difference .
.
🚴‍♂️Fact is, when it comes to just losing bodyweight, as long as you’re in a calorie deficit and do some form of exercise (walking, swimming, yoga etc) you will lose actual scale weight over time. This is great, if this is your goal and all you care about is the number on a scale
.
.
💪However, as a coach, I’m more in the business of helping people change their body composition; lose body fat, keep muscle mass and produce lean, toned bodies. That’s the goal of all the people i work with and it’s because of this, I make sure all of my clients are lifting weights a minimum of 3 times a week
.
.
🏋️‍♂️Lifting weights may produce a drop in bodyweight as well, but it will also help you do all those things on the right hand column (and many more), if you stick to it consistently over time, of course. This is why I feel so strongly about everyone doing some form of weight training!
.
.
👉I get that it’s more to think about; what training program to follow, what exercises to do etc. rather than just going for a walk. That’s why it’s beneficial hiring a coach to help you, as I’ve said many times before

🏋️‍♀️Having worked in a major health club in the UK, as well as, training clients in many apartment gyms in Dubai, I notice many people doing a, what I would call, ‘don’t know what they’re doing workout.’ Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not having a go at these people. It’s not their fault, they just don’t know how to do a proper workout. That’s why I’m here to show you and them, how to do just this

🏃‍♀️Very often the routine of someone who doesn’t know what to do, will go something like this: .

🔹Walk/jog for 20 minutes
.
🔹Cross trainer for 20 minutes .
🔹The adductor/abductor machine (receive awkward glances)
.
🔹Some horribly performed crunches .
🔹Finish and reward yourself with food .
🔹Repeat 7 days a week and wonder why no progress is made

👇Scrap all that and try this instead:

🏋️‍♀️This is a simple, full body workout that will do 100 times more for your body than the other workout. If you don’t know how to perform these movements properly, ask a coach to help you. 💥6 Tips to Help you Gain Muscle by @sam_xceedfit💥

🏋️‍♀️I’ve been getting a lot of questions recently from men and women, regarding how to put on weight/build muscle. Firstly, this is a slow ass process so don’t expect quick results! It a long term game .
.
1️⃣1g of protein per lb of bodyweight is a good number to aim for. You want enough protein to help your muscles recover and grow, but you want to leave room in your calories (and your stomach) for more carbs and fats
.
.
2️⃣You don’t need to be eating everything under the sun and becoming a fat slob! A small calorie surplus (circa 300 calories) is enough. Don’t forget to track your food, at least initially, to keep on point .
.
3️⃣If you want a muscle to grow, you have to train it more frequently. That doesn’t mean you hammer every muscle each day, not at all. Think about stimulating not annihilating. Train hard, leave some in the tank, repeat 2-3 days later .
.
4️⃣Certain hormones that help with muscle growth, are elevated during sleep. Therefore, you need to be getting quality sleep and as much of it as possible. Take naps if you can too!
.
.
5️⃣This is the biggest issue. You can’t just be eating in a surplus during the week and then take 2 days off cos you’re ‘too full,’ especially for you naturally skinny people. You’re trying to push the body away from it’s comfort zone, which requires consistent dedication every day
.
.
6️⃣As I said at the start, you need a lot of patience for putting on muscle (even more than you do for losing body fat). If you can’t accept that you’re in this for the long haul, then I wouldn’t bother .

💥Weight Training vs. ‘Cardio’ Weights by @sam_xceedfit 💥

🏋️‍♂️Let’s start this off by addressing what I mean by ‘cardio’ weights. Think about a really poorly programmed group exercise class (not all of them are like this), where people are chucking around 1 and 2kg for 100 reps, each exercise, with poor form, just to break a sweat. Unfortunately, you only have to look in many gyms to see ‘trainers’ doing cardio weights with every single client. Poor souls 😞
.
.
🏃‍♀️Cardio weights is basically a fast paced, circuit style ‘workout’ using light weights, without any control, progressive overload or purpose. Now, don’t get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with circuit training or cardio, IF it’s programmed properly. I often give my online coaching clients a circuit workout to do (especially if fat loss is their goal) but it’s a very small percentage of their week, in comparison to their proper weight/strength training .
.
🏋️‍♂️I’ve spoke before about the many benefits of weight training (go back and check that post out) so I won’t repeat myself. The bottom line is, more people would benefit from controlled weight training where they actually use (and hopefully grow) their muscles, and progress over time. Remember, having muscle mass makes it easier to lose body fat over time. Cardio weights do not do this (unless you are a complete beginner and even then, this would slow down after a few weeks)
.
.
😇Correct me if I’m wrong, but I assume you want to lose fat and be lean for LIFE. Not constantly yo-yoing between skinny fat and just fat. This will only happen by building muscle. Again, if you aren’t sure how to weight train properly, please get a coach to show you. It will be the best investment you make for long term health .

🙄Unfortunately, there is still plenty of stigma regarding lifting weights, especially with females. Thing is, your gender is irrelevant. If you want to lose fat, tone up, gain muscle and look better in the mirror, lifting weights is key to all of these 👍

🏋️‍♀️I totally understand that if you've never lifting weights before it can be daunting and often scary, especially to step into a gym for the first time. Hell, I was the same when I was 16 and stepped into a gym for the first time! It was frightening 🙈
