When you love your body, you can achieve anything you put your mind to 🗝
Truth be told, I've always had body image issues. Being from an asian culture, I never looked my ethnicity. Instead of porcelain white, I was slightly tinted. Instead of skinny legs, I was muscular. Instead of no curves, I've always had a sexy silhouette. My family shamed me for this. Growing up, my nickname was páng mèi, directly translated into fat little sister. This nickname spoken to me more times than I can remember, seared into my inner being.
It wasn't until a few years ago that I decided to love myself the way I would want others to love me that things began to shift. This self-love work is no joke, especially when there have been years of trauma. I spoke to myself the way I wanted others to speak to me. I treated myself the way that I wanted others to treat me. I believed in myself like I wanted others to believe in me.
Through integrity, consistency, and grace, I was able to get to this day pictured above. To be out in public with my body on display. Trust me when I say my inner critic lit up, but also believe me when I say that at some point, you just do what it is that you love and those who don't appreciate your work will schlep away.
