What breakfast looks like! Kidding. Haha. This so what work looks like. I've been testing so many permutations of the conventional flour free waffle—combos of oat, almond, spelt, and buckwheat—that I can think of for the book. And lots of lemon turmeric ginger tea in my @notary__ceramics mug to fuel the recipe testing. The thing I find hardest about writing recipes is settling on flavor combinations. It always feels so arbitrary to be like here are "cacao, buckwheat, and coconut waffles". What makes sense to me is to teach ratios & techniques and suggest flavor combos because there are so, so many good possibilities. To zero in on one root soup recipe, one cake recipe, one grain bowl. I can hardly bring myself to do it! I really dislike recipes in so far as they are so specific when I believe cooking is a more fluid what's on hand, what's in season kind of thing. So I think there might have to be 4 waffle/pancake variations in my book...because how could I possibly choose just one? We'll see. Do any other recipe developers / cookbook writers out there struggle with how arbitrary recipes seem? If you cook from or read cookbooks do you feel confidant changing things up based on what's in your fridge/pantry and what's in season? #theartofslowliving
The first ice cream of the season and I am already thinking about what I want to make next. This batch is ultra creamy thanks to @vermontcreamery creme fraiche and is like a big scoop of summer. Recipe coming next week! .

Saw some of our work on the menu tonight! Went to dinner with the family and made the mistake of telling my grandparents that it was my work. Within 10 minutes all of the complete strangers around us also knew, pictures were taken, embarrassment ensued. Typical family time 😳
