I think one of the hardest things to learn as an athlete is to always be thankful for what your body gives you on the day it gives it to you. Because there are certainly those days where it can be extremely difficult to find anything to be thankful for!
Some combination of heat, nutrition, and a travel-related stomach bug got me today out on the course here in Barbados, and it was everything I could do to cross the finish line. I had to stop to throw up 4-5 times on the run. The thought of DNFing for the first time in my life didn't sound like the worst idea, but I've never dropped out of a race and I wasn't going to start today.
Definitely not the season debut I was after, but today was certainly not a performance that's indicative of where I am and where I'm heading this season. Maybe it's not my weekend, but it's gonna be my year. For now, it's time to recover, retool, and regroup for the next one.
And at the end of the day, how on earth can you possibly have a "bad" day in a place as gorgeous as this? So I'm choosing to remain positive and thankful for what the body gave me today!
