One of the greatest ways to strengthen your grips and forearms is towel pull up.
It's a bit different than just holding the bar with a normal hang grip. Your thumbs don't really work much that way. You can even try to release your thumbs and you won't fall down.
However, with the towel, you are forced to use a vertical hang grip. This way, you will have to use your thumbs to hold on, thus maximizing the work of your forearms muscles.
