Islam: The Ultimate Advocator of Peace
Happy Belated International Peace Day to everyone!
International Peace Day is the celebration of a particularly significant idealism, one especially important to the followers of Islam – a religion whose very name means “peace” and “submission”. In light of recent happenings, it is so imperative for each and every one of us to practice peace, love and kindness towards each other in our lifestyles – this is the only way through which we can hope to reinstate peaceful communities and relationships amongst each other: by practicing inner peace itself.
Only once we establish an inner peace, will our outward peace and love towards each other be truly genuine and influential, whilst reflecting the true state of our inner persons.
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Allah has revealed to me that you should humble yourselves to one another. One should neither hold himself above another nor transgress against another.'' A fundamental theory in Islam, as depicted through the above Hadith, is the notion that all humans are equal and should be compassionate and peaceful with one another as we are all the blessed creation of Allah Ar-Rahman (the Beneficent) and As-Salaam (the Source of Peace). A Muslim cannot claim to truly love his God if he does not approach others with mercy and kindness, just as God approaches His creation. Thus, it is evident that Islam is indeed the ultimate advocator of peace, for Allah is in fact the first and final source of peace and compassion.
Ahmad (as) once said: “He who abandons kindness, abandons religion.” This quote indicates to us that in Islam, kindness is equivalent and synonymous with a believer – if one is not kind, one simply cannot be a true believer in Islam.
