Nothing but blue skies today off the coast up in Jupiter! 🌊 What are some of your favorite places to cruise around on a perfect South Florida morning? #myworldocean #blueskyday

We all live by the sea. No matter how far from the sea you live, next to the beach or far away in the mountains, you still have a great impact on it. And it is up to you whether you create a positive relationship with the sea or have adverse impact on it.
We believe that educating people about the importance and the beauty of marine environments is the key to creating positive attitudes towards the sea.
The idea behind this project involves a worldwide contest for young persons up to the age of 21.

The contest will be held in four age categories:
5 to 12
13 to 15
16 to 18
19 to 21
In this edition of the Contest we expect from participants to use any type of visual arts to present a story of “their sea”. Therefore, we will have two categories:
Photo
Film
Participants, along with a short text, which will describe the story, may submit photos or short films. In the films we accept any form of artistic expression, from a documentary, to feature, or theatre play, through pantomime, dance or a song.

We will take into consideration not only the photo or a film but also a relevant description of a region, a special feature of the place, an explanation of the depicted problem, etc.

All works submitted will be reviewed by a panel of International Judges.

Then, a maximum of 30 photos, films and stories will be presented as a part of the celebration of the European Maritime Day and the World Oceans Day in May and June 2019 in Lisbon.

Contest timeline
Submission of works (1 photo or 1 film plus text) by 11 March 2019
Announcement of the results : 16 May 2019

Water is life, water is Everything. You can't have it all without water. Let's protect our precious and magical oceans. #worldoceanday

This baby dugong could live to be 73 years old! (Thats the age of the oldest recored specimen). We can help her live that long, and have children of her own so the dugong population continues to grow and avoid extinction. Currently dugongs are classified as ‘vulnerable’.
Spread the word about sustainable fishing, and ask your friends and family to buy MCS approved fish! Our last post contains a link to some great sustainable fish recipes.

I'm magnetized to my phone. UGGGGGG.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I hate it and I love it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So I've been practicing leaving it at home when I go into the world with my son.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm scared to death we will need it - to park, to find directions, to look up a great song. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And then we don't.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We pay with quarters. We find our way. We sing the song out loud. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We laugh.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We get quiet.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are only distracted by something beautiful or silly.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'd like to say I do it a lot. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I don't.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'd like to.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What do you do that distracts you from your phone?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Aloha Life goes Naked! - Yep, that’s right.. In support of the @nakedcards campaign we ship all our orders completely plastic free. Fear not, your beautiful card will arrive protected in a paper sleeve and then popped into a recyclable board backed postal envelope.
~
As lovers of the ocean and avid beach bums, one of our biggest considerations here at Aloha Life is our impact on the environment, especially our oceans. With the ever growing concern over the amount of plastic along our coastlines we are doing everything possible to reduce our use of unnecessary plastic.

@critchley_emma here, taking over @spectrumlab’s instagram feed for the next week.
Here I’m filming for Common Heritage at the Alma Observatory, in the Atacama desert of Northern Chile, 5000 metres above sea level. ALMA (the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array) is the most complex observatory ever built. ALMA can see star and planet formation, black holes, and the first galaxies of the universe.

The determination to exploit the sea floor means this once seemingly infinite landscape is now being carved up into territorial space. Common Heritage is an urgent response to the gold rush of deep-sea mining predicted to start next year, exposing how reverberant layers of industrialisation and colonialism have affected the way we relate to our environment. Highlighting fantasies, we construct around exploration, the film draws into focus how these romanticized stages are in fact borders of conquest, annexed for geopolitical territory appropriation and mineral resources. In 1967, Arvid Pardo, the Maltease Ambassador to the UN gave a speech, which instigated the Common Heritage of Mankind principle. His speech narrated by science fiction writer, Gwyneth Jones is the provocation for the film. Dystopian science fiction motifs are harmonized with a poetic montage of deep-sea exploration archive footage. This juxtaposition sets up questions about our current state and how we should move forward into these frontiers.

Thank you to @alma.observatory for supporting the project.

Another still from my film Common Heritage of a manganese nodule from the ocean floor, thousands of metres below the surface. They can take millions of years to grow just a few millimeters. Rich in minerals, these nodules are mined for use in the tech industry.
