Cameroon 🇨🇲: Poulet DG
A dish that was once reserved for Cameroonian kings and delegates, but now one of the most popular dishes in the nation, we definitely enjoyed making and eating this dish.
This meal was relatively healthy and definitely tasty. The veggies are steamed so they are nice and crunchy (just the way I like them!) and the chicken is BBQ/stir fry style— nice and simple, seasoned with only salt and pepper.
The “sauce” was very garlicky, the chicken just a tad over salted, so the only downside is that you wouldn’t want to eat heaps of this in one go. But it was damn delicious otherwise. Something we found very interesting was that the plantains — though they look and smell and feel like bananas— once we fried them in oil, they basically served the way potatoes do in western dishes. Even the next day of leftovers, they reheated the same way. It was a very interesting discovery we made, and honestly this sort of thing is exactly why we started this journey in the first place!! Learning about new foods and new cultures simultaneously is awesome and makes us more excited to experience them firsthand one day...! We will definitely have this dish again, but we will lower the sodium intake next time 😅😅, to the joy of health care professionals everywhere.
