The dust in this picture did settle. We noticed then, that this little one was quite badly injured on it's back leg from a snare (which you can see on back left leg) that had tightened and cut the flesh badly...and looked to have gone right thru to the bone. It could not keep up with the others and could barely put any weight (if any at all) on that leg. The bottom half of the leg kind of dangled as it tried hard to keep up with the herd.
This is what happens due to poaching. Snares are left out and a few days later the poachers come back to see what they've caught. They are actually trying for hippos, as they meat is considered a delicacy - and for elephants and rhinos for their ivory. These other animals, however, are perishing due to the illegal activity.
Our guide felt this one would not make it thru the night and would be taken by hyenas overnight even though it would be reported to authorities who go out and try to rescue the animal. The problem with this one is that we saw it near the end of the day, making it unlikely that intervention would happen promptly.
It isn't a picture I was going to share but then it seems, on the otherhand, a moment to share what goes on.....how the animals suffer.....and why we need to protect our wildlife - not only there but here, in our own backyards as well. - Kenya 2018 #viewbug #lionworldtales #animalsofinstagram #igs_africa #africanwildlife #safarisinkenya #stoppoaching #savetheanimals #kenya #animals #traveller_stories #travelife #happeningoutside #unbound_lifestyle #ig_captures #world_in_my_eyes #shootandshare #cs_reality #travelingshoot #earthfocus #shootergram #visual_spotlight #world_lenz #ig_global_life #ig_sharepoint #ig_realities #global_secrets
