Merriam-Webster defines failure as a lack of success, or (b) falling short. Today, I failed. I failed HARD. The temptation to quit your goals becomes much stronger when you hit the wall we know as “failure.” After all, shouldn’t I interpret this as a sign that maybe I’m not meant to achieve my goals?...... Yeah fucking right. Failure is the ultimate teacher in showing us exactly where we need to improve. Failure means you found the threshold of your current capability, and instead of retreating, you decided to push it. Failure means you’re one more push closer to winning.
I’m not going to lie. After my epic fail today, I shed some tears. I was tired, embarrassed, disappointed, and angry with myself. But then it dawned on me that all I really lost was confidence, and that was only going to be lost for as long as I allowed it.
So, I don’t believe Merriam-Webster’s definition of failure, thank you very much. I don’t think failure is a lack of success or falling short. I think failure is an opportunity to rise, push harder, and grow taller.
