Apart from the industrial ‘boom and bust’ of the Guiting Power Stone Pipe Company in the early 1800s, agriculture and its service industries were the mainstay of the community. However, from the late 19th century, a declining rural economy with lack of investment caused severe dilapidations in many of the estate houses leaving some roofless and uninhabitable. In 1968, The #Manor #lands and over half of the housing stock was purchased by Raymond Cochrane bringing with him the requisite vision and capital to renovate the houses and develop the infrastructure. Before his death in 2008, Mr. Cochrane established the Guiting Manor Amenity Trust to oversee the estate’s interests in this #workingvillage.
