🌊Do you sometimes feel like you’re drowning in work, errands, family duties and feeling completely overwhelmed?🌊 You're not alone! 👭 So many of us feel overwhelmed, particularly at this time of year. We are all racing to get our jobs completed in time for the holidays and end of the year, and preparing all the necessities of our respective Christmas celebrations.🎄
I often feel overwhelmed and certain things trigger me, in particular technology!💻 If I'm not clear or certain of what or how to do something, a trigger goes off in my brain and overwhelm kicks in. Somedays it can be a paralysing fear of failure. So I put things in my too hard basket and get on with easier tasks.
But that never gets anything done, does it? The big tasks never get completed.
I now have a few strategies to help me overcome the overwhelm and to start achieving the big, scary goals.🏀
I think of what my ultimate goal is and work backwards from there, breaking it all down into bite-sized chunks of what needs to happen before Big Goal X can be done. ‘Before I can achieve X, I need to do A, and before I can do A, I need to do B, C and D’. Sometimes even those bite-sized chunks need to be broken down again into much smaller ‘mini-tasks’.✔
There is only one way to eat an elephant and that is one bite at a time. 🐘 .
The key to avoiding the overwhelm, even when taking chunks out of the elephant, is to write a list of tasks that you CAN achieve today. I used to write out my list of everything single thing I had to do, and then at the end of the day, wonder why I had not achieved much, if anything at all. .
Just focus on one achievable thing at a time and you should have a nice productive day! ✔🎖
