Childhood. Version 2.0
Childhood is one of those phases of which you have a myriad of memories. Some of the best days, some invaluable lessons and above all, NO obligations. You are young, wild, and free.
Wistfully, I have to say that the childhood, I went through and every other 90's kid could back me up here, experienced is now evanescent.
I fondly remember those rainy days, when we bounced and played in the muddy puddles till our clothes gave way. The rain still spills on the window panes, inside which children play; it's somber that the tears from heaven cannot reach the children's sight. 'DO NOT GO OUTSIDE, IT'S RAINING' is the new system, these days.
Those days when we had 'roohafza' ice creams to beat the summer heat and slept cozily on the terrace in the tepid winter sun. Those ice creams have been reinstated with aerated drinks. The sun still shines in the winters, though, on the clothes, without any skin on them.
It was the age of tazo's and cartoon cards, for which chips packets were exclusively purchased. The tazo's and cards are now trapped in screens on which every kid's eyes are glued.
It's funny they call it the 'smart generation' when they're living someone else's life in the game they're hooked to.
I can commemorate the school days, how our over-sized uniforms made us look adorable, more than we de facto were, so many memories in our minds. The uniforms have shrunk, to exhibit what we're not even fully cognizant of, and the memories have condensed to mere selfies in our phones.
The get togethers were so much fun, the smiles were genuine, the laughter was unanimous. Now, they go by their literal meaning, when a group is almost forced to unite only to be, later, involved in themselves, the smiles blanch and the laughter is now at someone else's expense.
The ambience is still the same, the psyche has mutated and individuality is being obscured.
When did the original variant of childhood surrender to its slyly gaudy translation? Where is the childhood, I know of, that I can divulge?
