W H I T E S P A C E / Taking a page out of @hilaryrushford's book and embracing this perspective for #2016. I always have a tendency to fill up my calendar and overcommit myself. At first I’m fine and think to myself ‘yeah, I got this’ but eventually the overwhelm hits and my soul is left feeling drained, depleted and daunted.
It becomes all about chasing the clock, ticking the boxes and crossing off the lists, etc. You’re in the constant flow of catch up, keep up and don’t fall behind. 😓 Instead of giving my best yes to things that I’m called to I’ve been falling under the pressures of expectation, public appearance and task-master. And that doesn’t sound like a fun and meaningful life to me.
This ‘busy lifestyle’ that we’ve become so fixated on is damaging. Why do we glorify this? This word, ‘busy’ is such an overrated term and I’m on a mission to change it. Instead of using the word busy to describe my life, I want to say my life is FULL. Full of purpose, full of joy, full of rest, connection, fun, and all that good stuff - the stuff that makes life enjoyable, not overwhelming.
You see, when I think of busy, I think task-based, schedules, routines, ticking boxes… But living in fullness? To me that sounds like the choices you make add value and enrich your soul rather than sap your energy. I believe this what we all truly want - a fulfilling lifestyle.
Planning is still essential of, course… but instead of filling up the diary for diary-sake, why don’t we ask ourselves the question: If I say yes to this, what will I be saying no to? Is this decision going to fulfil me or is it going to overwhelm me? More fullness, less busy. #whitespace #morefullnesslessbusy #purposefulliving #thursdaythoughts #wordsofsparkle #thebestyes
