It's been awhile since I posted a #mancrushmonday but this week I have to introduce the world to my friend @oliverpratt_handcraft. He carved this canoe paddle from a single piece of Birch and let me watch while he fine tuned the shaft with a spokeshave. He made it long enough with the classic Maine game warden handle that he can grip it sitting or standing up. Ollie works at @lienielsentoolworks in Maine (where I took this photo yesterday), and he's a true purist hand tool green woodworker. He will never put sandpaper on anything. The surface finishes will always be his final cuts from various knives, spokeshaves, planes, and gouges. He won't varnish it either - just a soaking in raw linseed oil and he'll go paddling. He believes as a green woodworker, "the wood has to live a life, so that it can die, so that it can be beautiful. And when it dies, I'll just make another one."
