The beauty of fungi. I've been watching this grow throughout the year, starting from tiny buds. #fungi #woodlandfloor

Going to Hexham and Corbridge today. Hoping to find something lovely to buy!

Mushroom flush going on on the woods! Here's Crown-Tipped Coral (Artomyces pyxidatus). We lost the crown of an Aspen a few years ago, and nature is cleaning up. Edible with a peppery taste.

With almost half of the world's bluebell population grown in the UK, the bluebell is one of our most well-loved and endeared wild flowers and protected species. From Inverness to Land's End bluebells amaze, inspire and delight us, as well as herald the coming of spring and longer, warmer days. Time for a National Bluebell Day??!!!

Spotted in a woodland in mid Wales. A good 10 miles from anyone. Bigfoot researchers in the U.K. believe this to be key evidence in the existence of a Bigfoot nest. #woods #woodlandfloor #hut #nest #structure

The long grass in the woodland is currently covered in globules of froth/foam. This foam is the home of the froghopper insects' young known as 'spittlebugs' or 'nymphs'. The spittlebugs are protected by the froth from predators and weather fluctuations. The nymphs suck sap from the grass that they are living on and when they leave their egg and become adult froghoppers, they can jump from plant to plant. The froth/foam resembles saliva and is known as 'snake spit', 'frog spit' and 'cuckoo spit'. Fortunately the spittlebug itself is of no great danger to plants which is a relief as the woodland is full of white froth/foam!
