Part 3 of my weekend post:
One of the friendliest people in independent watch family are Bart and Tim Grönefeld. Based out of The Netherlands – a rather unexpected location for Haute Horlogerie company they are a third generation of watchmakers who continued family tradition and expanded it to what is now one of the most recognizable and critically acclaimed names in independent watch industry – Grönefeld.
The watch I’m trying on is hosting one of the most subtle yet complex to make functions – the dead beat second hand (aka seconde morte). One of my previous write-up was about the Arnold & Son Dial Side True Beat Second which has the same funky feature. To recap – dead beat second is very old feature of a mechanical watch or a clock where the second is ticking rather then sweeping at a rate of the escapement wheel. BTW, hence the name of the model – One Hertz.
