Was I totally ready for a VERY HILLY VeRY HOT ultra 2 weeks post Ironman and 4 days post surgery....Probably not😬🤪 BUT Zero expectations except to go have some FUN and get some time on the legs!!! I was so HAPPY to just get out and start to build my trail running machine—⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️ ....

Races are a great way to have a supported training day, a great way not have to run “alone”, highly recommend!!!!!!!!! Just DO IT⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️And you have the ability to graze tasty snacks at the aid stations & have your packed filled with water (and ice for us)😃 ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️

Black Hills 50 Mile recap:
Since this was my first 50 miler and having only ran a 50k a few weeks prior I had no idea what to expect... none at all. I knew from talking with all my ultra loving friends that it was going to hurt, there would be tough times, happy times and emotional times, and also that a majority of finishing a race is mental. I would say this race for me was 100% mental. The Black Hills definitely delivered. From the beautiful trees, the tough climbs, the waterfalls, the creeks and the sound of the wind blowing through the trees, it was all there! The humble pie was delivered immediately with our first giant climb. Once we got over it, I felt like we all had a great rhythm going. A group of 4 of us from Bismarck were all running together for the first stretch. We made it to the first aid station and all was good! I was feeling great! The next section started what the RD said was mucky due to ATVs being allowed on this section of trail. We all commented about how it really wasn’t too bad! Unfortunately we spoke too soon. After the next aid station we were in for quite the mucky, muddy mess. It took a lot of energy to move forward and stay upright. This section is where I tweaked my knee. The constant sliding instead of going straight forward jerked it just right. I had told Randy the downhills were starting to bug it, so we took those easy. It still was feeling ok, just sore. As we continued on I took advantage of any straightaways and runnable uphills as those didn’t bug my knee. The one part of the course I was most nervous for were the water crossings, but actually by the time we reached them I was so excited. I yelled a few times here comes the water. We had 5 water crossings within a mile. They were so refreshing and fun. Afterwards they put a pep in my step. I hit the next section hard. When I got to my crew stop I switched shoes and socks to give me a fresh start. Leaving there we were told the aid station was a 1/4 of a mile up the trail... pretty sure it was closer to a mile and it was the worst mile ever! When I arrived there I caught back up with Randy. At this point we had a little over a 30k left.

25km done and now brunch.

Summer is here for some people already, (not for me yet 😉). Wherever you go, make the most out of it 🌞

Nach dem doch recht anstrengendem Lehrgangs-Wochenende bin ich trotzdem noch 10 km um den See gelaufen, begleitet vom Lieblingsmensch, der neugierig war und alles wissen wollte.
So langsam muss ich mir jetzt mal Gedanken zu den kommenden Wochen machen, bis zum Kölnmarathon und Bottroper Herbstwaldlauf ist es nicht mehr weit!
