My name is Ophelia, I'm 29 years old & am from Paris, France. Why did I start Triathlon? Well, my father has been a triathlete for 10 years now. He has done 38 Ironmans, is a 9-time Kona qualifier (10th in a row this year!), & this year, he was even the European Champion in his AG! So, it’s not a coincidence that I started Triathlon. But what motivated me the most was my weight. I LOVE TO EAT. In 2 years, I had gained 10kg, & thought that it had to stop! So, in 2016, I started to run. Then I attended the WC in Kona (as a supporter of-course, lol), that's when I decided that I wanted to challenge myself and do a 70.3 in 2017! I didn’t really know if I believed in myself, but I spoke to my father & six months later (March 2017) - I had my bike, started my first swimming lessons & registered for my first olympic-distance in Paris. I was full of energy and could feel myself getting better & better. Unfortunately, I pushed myself too much for 2 months, & started a big decline in May; I became a zombie, too tired, I was ready to give up on my dream. It took me months to feel better, but eventually, I got back on my bike & was ready to get back to training! First lesson I learned: just because you feel great, doesn't mean you have to train hard everyday. We are not machines, our bodies need some rest!! So, in July, I did my first olympic-distance race in just under 3hrs. 2 days later, I registered for my first 70.3 in Vichy! After only 5 months of training, on 26th of August, I was a finisher of a half Ironman (in 6h 28m)! My run was really bad because cycling is my favorite sport, so I enjoyed going pretty fast but it killed me for the half marathon after, and I guess I was still too fat, lol!
This season, I have registered for 3 races and am very excited! Since I started to Tri, I've lost 4kg, hope to lose a bit more, but still love to eat, haha! ~ Ophélie Foulounoux [@ophelichka_tri]
