When Umm Salamah رضي الله عنها and her husband رضي الله عنه decided to migrate to Madinah, they prepared a camel and as they began leaving, some of the Mushrikeen (disbelievers) stopped them. Her family (tribe), the Banu Makhzum, prevented her from leaving. They told her husband, "This is our daughter and she will not leave Makkah." And her husbands tribe, Banu AbdulAsad, snatch her little baby, Salamah, away from her. Her husband left for Madinah without his wife or child.
Umm Salamah رضي الله عنها used to go to the place of this event, everyday and cry. She missed her husband and child. This carried on for almost a year, when eventually, her family allowed her to migrate to Madinah. She then went to the tribe of her husband, Banu AbdulAsad, and pleaded for custody of her baby. She then prepared a camel and migrated to Madinah. She made this journey alone, until a man (he was not a Muslim at the time) who recognised her as the daughter of Abi Umayya, decided to be her custodian all the way to Madinah. This was a journey of approximately 16 days. Umm Salamah رضي الله عنها described this man as the most modest stranger she had ever met. And she would never meet such a person again. When she needed to jump off the camel, he would bring the camel down, walk away, then allow her to jump down, then he would come back and tie the camel. When she needed to get onto the camel, he would prepare it for her, walk away, allow her to sit, then come back and begin the journey. He did this for the entire duration of the journey. سُبْحَانَ ﺂللَّــہ.
After the death of A'isha رضي الله عنها, the Sahâba would go to Umm Salamah for consultations regarding rulings of Islam and teachings of the Prophet ﷺ.
