Happy #womancrushwenesday everyone. Last week has been a blast meeting amazing #womeninstem
Let’ swipe through the reel for a recap of the week
1a – Finally met IG supastar @science.sam, who works just a street away in another lab. We chatted about academic life, mental health & of course use of social media in #scicomm. Amazing conversation with this lady, keep looking out here for more about our meeting ;) .
1b – Serendipitously ran into another girlcrush @scigirlsash at a girl’s mentorship event! She literally called out “@beyond.the.ivory.tower!” It was laughs from beginning to end. Can’t help but chat about #gradlife & social media. Really enjoyed the open & honest convos with these lovely ladies.
1c – Last scicomm encounter goes to @thepurpleliliac @etsy Canada event in Toronto. This amazing woman is a mother, wife, PhDc, scicommer & entrepreneur! How does she do it all? She says motherhood has taught her how to be productive!
2 – I was honoured to be an invited panelist at a women in stem event @uoft. Being the only millennial & scientist on the panel, I was able to offer a different perspective on the current landscape. Additionally, the students loved my message on mental health! If I touched even 1 student, I am happy. I shared the panel with 2 other amazing women, a professor in computer science & senior engineering consultant!
3 – Last night I attended LeanIn Canada’s 1st stem event and wow! Moderated by Dr. Imogen Coe, the panel comprised of incredible women including Tamar Huggins from TechSpark To and Eugenia Duodu from Visions of Science. Topics ranged from embracing failure as a launching pad to recruiting our male counterparts as advocates on our behalf! Talk about an impressive group of women!
4 – Lastly, but not least, Canada finally has a Chief Science Advisor after many years! Dr. Mona Nemer, a cardiac scientist who served as VP R&D at uOttawa. Talk about a capable expert in the field of science who is extremely qualified for this position! I wish Dr. Nemer all the best in her new role & can’t wait to see her work in science policy!
And that closes off my week with amazing #womeninstem
