I used to decline gifts, nice gestures, and help because of my stubborn, "I'll do it my damn self" attitude. I wasn't trying to be the stereotypical "strong independent woman who don't need no man" - I was just used to working hard for what I wanted. Up until a few years ago, I had a really hard time accepting gifts because in my mind, I wasn't deserving because I didn't run myself into the ground working for them.
I got scolded into accepting a gift that forever changed how I look at giving and receiving. I was told that sometimes, God assigns people to be a blessing. And by accepting, I was allowing the giver to be obedient to what God told them to do. I didn't want to be the reason folks got their blessings blocked, and I certainly didn't want to block any of my own.
Give freely, accept openly, and allow God's favor to work through you and others.
