Of all the animals we've worked with, Indigo reminds us most of Nikki. That's likely in part because they were both still young wolfdogs, whereas most of our other residents were older. But it's more than that. They're both goofy, and they throw their whole body into everything they do. Whether it's playing tug of war (they've both ripped a shirt off of me) or giving love (they both flop into your lap like the weight of the world has become unbearable) you would get ALL of Nikki and you get ALL of Indigo. They're both VERY bossy little ladies, although Indigo takes a bit more time to feel confident enough to show her true boss lady vibes. The biggest difference is in how they view people. Indigo is terrified of strangers, whereas Nikki loved nearly everyone she met. Hopefully Nikki is still causing chaos and has found someone new to throw all of her love into. Here's to two strong, silly, beautiful girls 👯

Loki relaxing after a scent roll and after digging a massive hole... and blowing his winter coat means fur everywhere...These guys definitely are not always the cleanest 😂 #midcontentwolfdog #wolfdog ##wolfdogsofig #wolfdogstagram

Alright y'all, it's time to talk enrichment! All dogs need enrichment, it forces them to think, burns energy, and helps keep them happy and healthy. But wolfdogs tend to require more enrichment than most doggy dogs, due in part to a more evolved intellect and foundation stock pulled from working dogs (Huskies, Malamutes, German Shepherds). Consequently, a bored wolfdog is an incredibly destructive wolfdog. And unfortunately, Indigo is quite bored. Because the bones in her right paw are still healing, she's confined to a crate for the large majority of the day. In order to keep her happy and the crate (and all items within reach of the crate) intact, we've had to get creative. We've been filling Kong's with baby food and other special doggy recipes (always check ingredients), freezing all sorts of meaty bones, and feeding using slow feeders and puzzle bowls. We took some old clothes and turned them into dog toys so that when we are out of the house the little lady has items with our scent (and because she tears through toys so quickly we can't afford to keep buying new ones). We put a few drops of essential oils- she loves peppermint and lavender- onto plush toys and she rolls on them for days. What type of enrichment do you do with your dogs? Anyone have suggestions for movement limited enrichment that we missed? Any toy companies want a trial by bored wolfdog fire? 😂 Share your tips and favorite toys below! Also check out our friends @stefoni_blancotigre @allmydogsareheathens and @saramovahedi78 because without their help we'd be floundering about looking for ways to keep Indi happy while in her crate :)

Sasha, 7.5 months old. After around 6.5 months, she became the tallest dog among three. Abbey (middle, 10 years old) runs quite fast, but she cannot catch up with Sasha anymore when Sasha runs in full speed.

Today was a socialisation day for Sasha; we took her to a dog friendly cafe, Ambleside that was busy with people and a various type of dogs, different stores and the Tarn Hows where people (with and without dogs) of all ages enjoy strolling around the lake. Sasha was doing well except two small incidents (involving other dogs), not minding the surroundings. She was very good at a busting cafe, just lying under the table. We understand that as a CSV she is a nervous dog to a new environment, and we notice that she is aware of everything that is going on around her. She is still a little nervous with dogs of small breeds, which we hope more socialisation would resolve. All in all, it was a good day.

#ennerdaleforest in the #lakedistrict is a wonderful wild part of the Lakes. We normally take mountain bikes to cycle through then have a break with a warm cup of tea at the legendary #blacksailhut #yhaenglandandwales.
Sasha was over 7 months when we first took her to #ennerdale, so we took it easy so that she can gently trott rather than running all the time. She loved jumping into the refreshingly cold (even in August) River Liza and crystal clear pools. Another wonderful summer memory.
