Update on the #studio #redesign / #rewire!
We built 2 extra long tables, so that the whole width of the room is used on both ends. It definitely was a good idea but it took some time to draw up the layout, measure, get the materials and build it. That took most of Friday. Fridaynight I set up the computers and hooked up my #Tannoys the #RME.
Also on Friday, and this is very cool, we built a little prototype 2-tier #gearstand, which I hope to test the coming weeks. If it works, we're gonna build 4 more with 3 tiers. We built this from the leftover material for the tables.
On Saturday I started #wiring. Took me most of the day. I'm at about 80% of the audio #cable rewiring now. But I had to stop. Turns out I don't even have enough jack cables to finish the job at the moment.
I'd made a rough calculation of how many extra cables I would need with the addition of 3 #patchbays and an 8 aux / #48channel #mixer, but I guess I messed up. I need around 30 more, so Musikhaus #Thomann is sending me 35 next week.
Also I need 2 long #toslink cables to connect my #ADA8000 from across the room and 8 #xlr to jack cables for my group outputs. At Thomann I paid about half of what I'd pay ordering from Dutch suppliers. That really surprised me.
...but I have a bit of a dilemma now, leave the chaos as is for the coming days, and wait for the cables to arrive to finish wiring before I set up and am able to test, or set up the studio now as far as I can and (carefully) move some tables when the wires arrive by the end of the week to finish wiring? Neither is an ideal solution, but there's nothing else to do.
The one thing I can do, is bundle the last 25 cables or so I wired up yesterday and tidy up as far as I can. Unfortunately this is taking way longer than I'd hoped and I really want to hook up the gear and test the mixer. I hope there aren't any big issues, since it was pre-owned.
I really hope to finish by next week Friday, because the chaos is getting to me, my house is in complete disarray, the living room is disaster area and there is stuff everywhere. I can keep holding on to the plan and ward off the despair that comes with chaos for a while, but not for very much longer.😳
