With nearly 30 percent of the remaining Asian elephants in captivity, it is important to be aware on which sanctury will not only give you a great day with those amazing animals but will also truly help them to find a place where they could live in peace out of the threats and crimes of mankind. I would like to share with you my experience in the Elephant Village in Luang Prabang.
We started the day feeding the elephants, after the guide explained us the story of each of the elephant and took us for a boat trip to visit the part of the jungle where the elephants live, we had the chance to see them in the wild as the area of the village was very big and connected to the massive jungle.
We arrived in the village at 9am and left at 5pm, we spent 3 hours of our time with elepthant, ride them for 20 minutes.
I honestly was first skeptical but after my experience I can say that Elephant Village is a great place to spend an awesome day with the elephants and help their protection. Obviously it would be great to see them live happy in the wild, but those animals are bought from people who used them for the timber industry, carrying huge amount of weight everyday without breaks, they might not be able to live in the wild anymore.
